So 2 guys with Korean wives and get to play by different rules... have a hakwon in their wife's name and get to have fun.
For the rest of us... who don't have a Korean wife and the relaxed rules that it would provide us.... it is a journey into hell.
Save your money and sanity guys... This rates right up there with used car sales. |

I'm not looking to buy just now, so don't feel obligated to respond to my comment, but if this is such a wonderful opportunity for riches and freedome - then why are trying to sell it? And to the guy who keeps talking it up for his friend, why don't you just buy it? |

I am thinking the same. No reason has been provided for the sale. Are they leaving the country?
There is no price, no mentioning of what you are actually buying and i can go on.
If they were serious about selling they should provide far more techncial information on what they are actually selling. |

Wow this sure has gotten people worked up.
Cubanlord-Apology accepted. My misunderstanding. Sorry.
Juregen- Actually I have responded with 'far more technical information' to those people that read the ad and emailed me at the address provided. I didn't feel it appropriate to get into such things on an open forum. Most people don't openly discuss their salaries, do they?
In the emails I have sent out I have also explained my reasoning for putting the school up for sale. Again it is kind of personal. I don't really feel this is the place to discuss such things.
But...here goes. My son is 4 and a half years old. It's almost time for him to start school. I don't like the Korean school system very much (especially as concerns mixed-race children) so my wife and I have decided it would be best for him to go to school in Canada. Plus with the recent death of my father my mother is lonely. I'm an only child and she would like to see her grandson more.
There. I hope everyone is satisfied that I do actually have a reason for selling the school and leaving the country.
Again, please, if you are interested and have questions, feel free to email me at the address provided in the ad. (I paid $70, read the ad please.) |

I wish you and yours only the best. I am sure you know, but, don't forget to try the local papers and get that word of mouth going (through your wife and her friends). Someone is bound to show interest in your area. |

I can think of all kinds of reasons to buy this school. The fact that yesan is developing so fast with trains, government changes etc. If you have a set client list, which I believe this one has, then you just have to keep the business going, and there's only room to grow considering what yesan is experiencing.
As to why someone would be selling it, I can think of any number of reasons, maybe they're leaving korea to live some place else. Maybe one of them just got hired by samsung and is going to be racking in the dough. Maybe they want to devote their lives to producing korea's next one hit wonder k=pop star. If the argument is "oh, they're selling it, it must be bad," then that's lunacy. Look at the amount of business that goes on in this forum. people sell cars, scooters, bikes, cats, computers, tickets... is all of that worthless because someone is selling it???
Get a grip, people. |

Forgive my ignorance..
But wouldn't advertising that the school is foreigner-run be a big incentive to parents looking for a school? If I were a Korean parent, I'd definitely send my kid to a foreigner-run school because I'd know the textbooks would have fewer mistakes, and everyone would probably speak better English.
Is immigration really that cruel and deft-handed that hiding the ownership is a necessity? |

Neither of those have anything to do with the nationality of the owners.
A foreign run school will also likely pick from the selection of books available here. Most of the major publishers' textbooks are pretty error-free. The Korean-produced ones can be pretty bad though.
A foreign run school can still hire cheap inexperienced teachers who can't speak English well. A Korean owner could hire well-qualified teachers, too.
Everything has to do with the owner's mindset. If they are money driven, their school's education and atmosphere will suffer. If they are educationally driven, their pocket book will be hit harder, but they'll have a much better school.
A Korean owner that speaks no English can run an excellent school if they want to. They just have to pick the right teachers (Korean and foreign) and be willing to work with them to create a good program. |

Yesan, Choongnam Province, its 40 minutes south of Cheonan. Its on the same rail line that goes to Daecheon/Boryeong. And they are extedning the subway to the town in the next year or two. |

How much profit do you show each month? (money that goes into the bank).
I have a friend who has a hogwan, and he's still losing money each month, and will continue to do so until he gets more students - but it's a small hogwan, so he might be screwed.
So, honestly, how much do you make? |
