Hi,

Sorry I'm even posting this, but the search of the site isn't working, so I don't know if it's been posted before.

Last time I went to Korea was HORRENDOUS.... AWFUL experience. One of the major obstacles was the fact that when I got to the airport in Canada with my one way ticket, they wouldn't let me through. I had to BUY a 2300 dollar one-way return fare ticket. This was incredibly stressful, and if i didn't have that kind of room on my credit card I would have been fucked(as it turns out it would have been better if I didn't have the room, but that is neither here nor there).

Anyway, has anyone else had this problem? This is a question especially directed at my fellow Canadians. What can be done about it? Any sight is appreciated.

Thanks.

Canadians get a 6 month tourist Visa upon landing in Korea...That's plenty of time to get a ticket out of the country. I'm not sure why immigration would have forced you to buy a ticket out of the country before they would let you enter. When I came to Korea the last time it was on a one way ticket and I had no work visa. I had no problem getting into the country.

It's not Immigration, but the airline that enforces this. I know on Asiana, and someone mentioned one other airline, you can make a reservation but not actually pay for it. That worked for me.

the law says you only get a tourist visa if you have an onward ticket and sufficient funds. airlines enforce this and wont let u board the plane on a one way and no visa. i entered korea on a one-way but i had an E2 visa in my passport saying that I would be working in Korea for a year. no visa= u need a roundtrip.

some people get lucky on this. the airlines are busy and dont check and korean immigration is notoriously careless. i wouldn't risk it however because it can be a very expensive deal if u have to buy a roundtrip ticket at the airport. it sounds like u learned your lesson. why are you still considering this? get a visa or buy a roundtrip open ticket or one that isn't too expensive to change. a cheaper option might be buying a one way to seoul and a one way or roundtrip to japan (onward travel) a few days later. not sure if japan is strict on people entering on one ways. i flew to europe on a one way from seoul and had no problems in holland.

As in a similar thread, this still isn't clear. I have received a C-3 in my passport several times long before purchasing any tickets. (Why would I buy my tickets before I knew I was going to get the visa?) Are you talking about the automatic 30/90/whatever days you get on entry depending on your nationality?

Absolutely true. And C-3 visa = you need a round-trip ticket (or some semblance therof...)

Korean immigration doesn't seem to care at all...didn't say one word to me on entry.
