Experts debate whether children should be called obese
PCism is so pathetic nowadays. Doctors are scared of telling people they are fat. (I also read a while ago there were people who sued a doctor for telling them they show signs of depression ).
Ok fatties, you are fat. You are fat most likely because you are lazy. My sister was fat because of medication for epilepsy, which she later was able to get off of and lost the weight. I used to be fat cause I was a lazy fata$$ who didn't do any sports or exercise and ate non stop. I got smarter and lost it all (and put on a lot more muscle). Don't pretend being fat is ok. It isn't. You are lazier than other people by the pure fact that you can't work as hard. Also, it's not attractive. There are some people who find it attractive, but for the majority of people, it's hardwired in that it is not. Seriously, when a doctor can't tell a mother their kid is overweight (in a nice way ofcourse) and something should be done to help the child live a much better life without the mother getting angry, our society has hit a new low.
This may be harsh, and I will get flamed. But I am pretty sure there are a lot of people who agree with me. I went through middle school and high school (and first year of uni) really fat, so don't tell me I don't know what it is like.
Also, I figure this is a current event, though an ongoing one. |

Yeah, we should call them fat, and we should make fun of them and the parents that let them get fat.
Why? It's because at the rate kids are getting fat these days, it won't be long before the fat kids at school outnumber the healthy kids and are making fun of the skinny kids.
Therefore, I say call them fat while you still can. |

No, for children, it should be done in a nice way or even not at all for younger, just get the parents to change things (like I said in my OP) but it should be said. It should not be ignored. For the parents, they should be harassed, they are either not very bright, lazy or pushovers, all of which are bad (though like my sister, this isn't always the case, though I would hazard a good percentage). And for people, we really are becoming a society of wimps. One thing I actually like about Korea is the bluntness. Yes, I have put on a bit of weight this winter. I should watch that. |

There really isn't much debate around this issue in the medical establishment. I've been around the issue for years (cofounding a kids foundation and speaking around Canada on childhood obesity . www.fortheloveofkids.ca ) and can tell you that no doctor or medical professional would call a kid "obese" . This is a clinical diagnosis but unlike other terms, it has a social meaning.
I don't think adults should either but they can still be blunt, as pointed out, bluntness is necessary and we shouldn't tiptoe around the issue. Very serious and the cause not just of death but more importantly, a loss of life enjoyment/satisfaction/achievement.
I know of many websites I could suggest on the issue. But one in a general vein and which has won numerous rewards is "speakwell" ...it is Martin Collis and he collects a lot of great info, no nonsense stuff, in his newsletter. http://www.speakwell.com/well/index.shtml . I enjoy reading it when it comes out quarterly.
