I think I already know that this search will turn up dry, but I have to give it a shot anyway.

It goes without saying that Korean microbrews are, at their best, disappointing and overly flashy. O'Kim's in COEX has the worst atmosphere of any microbrew I've ever been in, except for one or two of them in Gangnam. A lot of people talk about Platinum, but getting a pale ale I could see through on my first ( and only ) trip there has left a very bad image in my head. There are one or two places in Gangnam that are alrigt, and I've heard from more than one person that Mega CC in Jamsil is nice, but when I took one look at the menu and saw no selection beyond the exact same three beers every other microbrewery in this city is selling, I wouldn't even walk through the doors. Many months of looking around have left me with nothing to show for it. So now I'm hoping someone here knows of a microbrew around Seoul that doesn't offer the same three beers all the others are selling and has a semi-decent pub atmosphere. Of course there are always the pubs in Itaewon, but I've been craving a decent microbrew for a few months.

You're outta luck. You aren't going to find any oatmeal stouts, chocolaty porters, or raspberry lambics in Korea. However, I remember reading about a micro in Gangnam that had a foreign zymurgist who was brewing India pale at one point.

Bottom line: Most of the micros in Seoul are mediocre and lack character, but they all beat the hell out of any Korean beer. You can have a good pub crawl in Gangnam.

Platinum in Gangnam is one of the better deals in town. You pay 16K to 18K for all you can drink micro brew, and all you can eat between 6pm and 9pm.

In Shinchon there is a place called Free Crocodiles.
They've got porter, nut brown, and an ale I think (it changes occasionally).

It's along the same street as Woodstock. When you leave Woodstock go left up the street (towards that convenience store on the corner) keep going across the intersection.
It's on the right side, second floor, just past a huge restaurant.

Hows the beer at Platinum?I made a reservation to go there next week.

Actually, its 20.000 per person.Still a bargain.I can see myself starting very pleasantly, then retuning home penniless with ripped pants, smelling vilely and washed up.

Woo-hoo!

You wouldn't be the first...

I drank so much there I went blind, then I spent the entire next day in the bathtub. Woo-hoo!

It's good. They do a very nice Belgian style beer. And a decent Guinness style too. There's about 8 homebrews to choose from and I think I tasted them all!!!! All were very good in this Irishman's opinion. Way, way better than Hite, OB or Cass which I don't allow in my house.

Where is this place? With all you can drink beer and food, I could definitely see myself getting banned for life.

It's out exit 7, then turn around, go the other way and start to walk up the hill to the left which will be to the east towards 역삼 station. You'll actually go by the exit that heads directly there but I don't remember what number it is. It's on Teheran-ro, the one that goes east and west.

I think I owe you all-you-can-drink beers, Flotty ol' boy. And you still owe me a slap or three across the face. Make sure you do it in front of some hot chicks. Chicks dig a drunken brute.
