Was this released in Korea on 06/06/06 as well as elsewhere? If so, I can't believe I missed it, because I've been to the movies in the last month.
Anyway, have you seen it? Any good? A look at the trailors reveals it looks almost identical, word for word, to the original - which perhaps is no bad thing! Pete Posslethwait as Patrick Troughton's priest character is a good idea and I like Lev Schreiber (who plays Gregory Peck's character).
This is the best trailer if you ask me: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MvjZ8iOV9dM&search=the%20omen
I'm not generally in favour of remakes however. Just smacks of lack of ideas. But, it was a good idea to exploit the 06/06/06 thing and it's also 30 years since the original was released.
Horror genre generally (horror fans respond): The Exorcist is the most embarrassing, cringeworthy, corny piece of overrated sh*t that's ever been released. It's just woeful. How anyone can find that kids' stuff scary is beyond this observer. |

Yeah, never got anything out of the exorcist.
But, LOVED the Omen. I think the way they filmed movies back in the 70s, whether it was the kind of film, or the lenses, or whatever, helps add to the viewing enjoyment.
Also was scared shitless from Halloween, but watched that when I was 10. |

Recently watched the Omen remake, and I'd say it was alright, if you enjoy the genre. Did I enjoy it as much as the original? Yes, but I don't have a high opinion of the original, so that's not saying much.
Regarding the original Exorcist, while I agree that it is, in hindsight, not the greatest film in the world (by a longshot), it had a good premise, reasonable special effects, an apt soundtrack, and quality acting. I've had the (dis-)pleasure of watching far too many horror films in my life, and by comparison, to say that the Exorcist is a poor contribution to the genre is a bit harsh.
Neon Maniacs is a bad film. I Spit on Your Grave is woeful. The Exorcist? Not so bad. |

Yeah, Exorcist was definitely over-rated. It was banned in England when I was younger (only had cinema release for years) and the thought of this movie so scary that it wasn't allowed on video....it certainly got the imagination going. Then when I eventually got around to seeing it, it was a huge disappointment. (The book was pretty scary though)
The Omen remake was okay, but I lost some enjoyment by watching a dodgy copy with the sound out of sync with the picture. Takes away from the jump-factor if you see something a second before you hear it.
Does anyone from UK remember the BBC drama one off "Ghostwatch"? It was on one Halloween, and was kind of a hoax documentary...now THAT was scary!! |

(see bold)
I remember it very well. I was only about 13 and it scared me shltless. I remember watching Match of the Day afterwards (Tottenham v Liverpool featured) but I just couldn't get Ghostwatch out of my head. I thought it was real. Same with the Blair Witch Project - I thought that was real too (no-one told me beforehand it was fiction) and that scared the living fook out of me as well! |

I saw it in the theatre two weeks ago and it was 'all right'. As a movie. But as what it is, a b movie, a horror flick, a make you jump dumb movie with delightful sinister overtones it was grand. There were five times in the movie, with the excellent sound in actual theatres, the audience jumps like OMG! I was laughing and getting the adrenaline shot and enjoying eeking. So I'd say it was excellent. It's not some worship-ably good movie, though. The guy who was the programmed candidate for president in The Manchurian Candidate is the father of the demon boy. He's a good actor and great for that part so he carried the movie. Along with all the SHOCKING bits. |

It did about 50 million at the NA domestic box office. The film probably cost that to make. Add in 25 million minimum to promote... Of course it will eventually turn a profit on foreign sales, DVD, pay per view, TV rights, etc. Very few movies actually lose money. Some take 10 years to turn a profit, mind you.
But I dunno. Omen and Poseidon both went down the drain in terms of box office splash. I wish Hollywood would figure out many of us aren't going to pay $14 to see a movie we catch once a year on Saturday afternoon TV. |
