I'm interested in elementary or middle school positions teaching in the Seoul area.

Some questions :

- I'm currently working at a Hagwon, will I be penalised financially for breaking out of a contract early?

- What happens to my visa after quitting my job? How long can I stay in Korea until it "expires"?

- How long is a typical class at elementary or middle school?

Thanks.

Well, you will lose out on all the money that you would have made, including your severance. After you quit your job and they cancel your work VISA, you basically have to get out right away. You can get short extensions, but still you will have to get out after them. Elementary school classes are 40 minutes long.

You also have to be sure that your school will give you a letter of release. If you break your contract and don't get this letter, you can't work in korea until your origianl visa expires. You have two weeks after your visa is cancelled to leave. I would go with your school to immigration to make sure they cancel it.

Also depending on how long you worked for the school, they may ask for airfare if they had to pay for it. Usually this is only if it's under six months.

I quit a job earlier this year and was at the seven month mark. They brought in a new director that didn't get along with me.

I'm curious why your quitting though..

Thanks for the replies.

My school has paid a deposit for my apartment. Upon breaking the contract and getting a letter of release, am I liable to pay for any fee regarding tennancy? Or would I be able to stay at this place if I find another job nearby?

Its been trying times but I want to move on, smoothly if I can!

Airfare? dammit. I wonder if the next school would be able to help me with that...

Things just didn't work out. I think I have too much pride working under a management whose concern is not about the teachers or students.
