The first year I was in Korea I was sick almost 75% of the time...one cold after another....I was miserable!
After that???? I havent had so much as a sniffle since then....I think it was the introduction to all the new cold viruse and being in constant exposure to kids......you think about it...if you are in contract with 100 kids a week at a hogwan....and each of those kids is in contact with hundreds or even thousands of kids at school....then you get exposed to a whole swarm of new germs.

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you here. Being at home and seeing family and friends should put you right. Be sure to take home some souvineers.
I used to get the horrible nighttime coughs and morning sore throats here every week or two. Now only 4-6 weeks. |

Am I understanding this correctly? This girl is leaving because she doesn't like it here and not for reasons of getting screwed. She's leaving her boss in a pinch and everyone is encouraging and empathizing with this?
Be a big girl and give your boss even a few weeks notice. |

Agreed. Act like a responsible adult. Go home, fine. But give notice like you agreed to in your contract.
EDIT: I just read the rest of your second post: you survive on diet coke, don't eat, you're (somehow) always sick, and you want your mommy to cook for you???
You're going to have problems whatever you do. Good luck.

yea, really. from her description of how things have been, she's clearly depressed, and making herself more unhealthy with each passing day.. it's hard to be sensible and give notices and all that when you can't even eat. if she needs to get out, go. take care, op. |

Agreed. Although, I have a sneaking suspicious that this girl's problems didn't start recently. A few more weeks to give her boss notice is not going to kill her. |

| For what it's worth, I understood it as she is too lazy to go to a restaurant. |

but when ur living on diet coke and sick all the time, yer not thinking...okay, well 30 days notice...yer only thinking...i must get home.
of course giving notice is the mature and sensible thing to do, but each person deals with their own thing their own way. sometimes hogwon bosses aren't that sensible and mature, and break contracts long before it ever entered yer mind to do it. |

If it's the case here that her boss will screw her if she gives notice then fine pull the runner. The boss can't force you to stay here and you aren't going to loose any more money by offering to stay and pulling the runner if necessary. The boss won't know when you are leaving.
My point is this: plenty of people come here, work hard and get screwed. When someone in the OP's position makes the decision to leave without notice for reasons that the school can't control it lends legitimacy to the hagwon's who will point to people like the OP to explain why their contracts are so bad and treating future teachers accordingly. It reflects poorly on all of us. |

| The OP already said she was irresponsible, so just let her run to mommy. |

| Ease up off the OP. She is the one that will live with the consquences not any of you. Her boss will find some other piece of white meat in a week or two. No real harm done and all that shite. |

I personally could care less about putting my scumbag hogwan director in a bind. These people aren't your friends. They only want to make a buck off of you. They care nothing about quality education. If it's no fun to be here, if you're sick and depressed, look after yourself and go home. That IS the responsible thing to do, IMHO. The hogwan will survive. If it doesn't, so what? The school didn't care much about her health, why sould she care about the director's financial health?
Maybe that makes me a jerk. but in the same situation, I'd take a train to Tibet before I stayed to help out some uncaring hogwan at the cost of my sanity and health. These contracts mean almost nothing and you all know that. |
