Don't be spiteful.
And you needn't be vindictive, unless you think you could change Korean values.
Or are already on the dark side.
Reporting them hurts the teachers a lot more, and the students a bit too.
No good can come of it. |

Except the good of getting illegals out of this country. Anybody who agrees to work illegally is a fool. Nobody owns them a thing. |

Most of these "illegals" would be degree holders who are EPIK or public school teachers who are lucky enough to have no camp of their own to work at.
I have no angst towards degree holders working illegally in Korea. And I have also met some really good teachers who have had absolutely no degree. I am not sure how to feel about the issue of "illegals." I'd much rather work with someone who had no degree that gave a crap about his/her students than some twirp who had a masters in TESL and was just here to chase tail in itae. |

Reporting them DOESN'T hurt the teachers.... it hurts the backpackers.
BACKPACKERS hurt the teachers.
There is a legal way to work a camp if you are legit..
If a legit teacher wants to break the law by taking shortcuts to make a few hundred extra dollars then they should go home to do it.
MAKE a report.
If they are on the up-and-up then there is no problem.
If they are not, then the deed is done and it is time to pay the piper. |

Report them for doing what?
You think that Immigration will disapprove of this?
Korean "all foreigners must verify their degrees or face deportation" Immigration?
You'll get laughed out of court.
I can just imagine the wide-eyed looks as you look for the section in the Korean Constitution that provides you with protection from discrimination on the basis of nationality.
Methinks you have much to learn about the land of your ancestors.
By the way, ARE you Asian? |
The OP didn't say anything about reporting the school for rejecting him / her for being Asian; yes, he / she feels indignant about that, rightfully so IMHO. However, what the OP wants to report is the school's illegal activities hiring teachers without proper documentation.
I think the school deserves to be reported; it'll not only slap the asshole back in the face, but it will also punish a hagwon owner who, by his actions in treating the OP the way he did and by the way he conducts his business, has made it apparent his only motive is money, not education.
While there is concern about what will happen to the teachers he did hire, illegally, for his camp, giving such a business owner a legal wake up call I think is good for the ESL profession; if he's hiring people illegally, one has to wonder what other things he does and gets by with in his dealings with his teachers, his students, his customers. Shine some legal spotlight on the asshole !
As for the other teachers: I agree with what someone else said above: they clearly know they are breaking the law by taking on employment without proper documentation. If they get hurt in this, it will make them think twice before trying it again. When teachers are willing to break the law, how can we expect the hagwon owners not to feel free to do the same? When teachers refuse to break the law and insist on proper, legal hiring, they help the ESL profession in Korea take a step forward - - and give themselves a foot to stand on when they get screwed and want the law to protect them.
But . . . yeah . . give them (the teachers) a heads up. If they insist on staying after that . . . . . |

| It seems unfair that you were not accepted on account of your appearance. Unfortunately, some schools are like that. While you may be upset now, I think you will cool down after a few days. If a camp has such discriminatory practices, they may not have been worth working for anyway - they clearly don't put teaching skills at the top of their list. I would just bite your lip and move on. Focus your energy on getting another job and be done with it. My new line is that a teacher should never stoop lower than their employer. |

I posted the OP, and I did extort. They panicked because they were illegal, and offered me a W3,000,000 paycheque to shut up. Camp would have payed much less if I had worked.
Thank you Grotto |

I'd rather not have to jump through tons of Immigration hoops either. But thanks to the illegals that's what I (and all other legal teachers) have to do. I don't own them a thing nor does anybody else. Their behaviour hurts us. Now we have to shell out money for transcripts every time we change jobs. Apparently some Immigration offices want up-to-date transcripts according to what I've heard..although it might be different at other offices. |

So you used an illegal method to obtain money from illegal workers? The irony is overpowering.
However I bet that they (the camp directors) will simply make up the difference by scamming their foreign teachers. |

| Had a friend working at the camp who wasn't aware of what I had done and how I got turned down. Apparently they all got what they were promissed at the end of the day. It would appear that their profits were quite high, so they didn't bat an eyelid at paying me out. |

Who really cares if a bunch of illegals get scammed anyway? Way to go OP. |
