Just looked at the standings for MLB.
Looks good for the Mets. How did they get so good? Looks like the Braves will not do it this year.
The west is tight in both leagues.
How did Detroit get good?
I'm surprised how one team can go for crap to good or vice versa so quickly.
Trades and free agents, I guess. |

| Detroit got good because their pitching (especially starting pitching)improved greatly. They acquired Kenny Rogers who is doing well so far and they have that rookie, Verlander who is also doing well. Replacing a couple of mediocre starting pitchers with two good ones makes a huge difference. Also, they've got a great manager. |

Detroit: Agree with Flakizer. They had some great bats in their lineup last year but their pitching was inexperienced and mediocre. Brining Jim Leyland in was one of the best moves they made. He won the first World Series for Florida Marlins and brought the Pirates to the playoffs a couple of times back in Barry Bonds early years. The White Sox are still the team to beat. They did nothing but improve in the off-season with the acquisition of Jim Thome, who has been tearing it up.
Who would of thought the Reds and Brewers would be just three games behind the Cardinals.
The Mets team is stacked. The Braves did a poor job in the free agency. They should of acquired Billy Wagner, one of the best closers in the game, but didn't like the price tag so instead he went to the Mets. Braves pitching is horrible, and their hitting about average. The Braves also let Leo Mazzone go to the Orioles. Cheapskates!! It would have been just a million more to keep him.
Red Sox have the best starting rotation in baseball, and their new closer Palpebon has been phenomenal.
The Mets are the only team with a commanding lead going in to the all-star break. |

Not much of a prediction, but I do agree. Baseball and soccer are 2 of those perfect kinds of sports where you can watch the game and do all kinds of other things at the same time without worrying about missing anything. You can do the laundry, wash dishes, clean up.....wtf? Why would I be doing that? I'm a man. That's why I gotta stick with sports with more action so I don't suddenly find myself doing housework while I'm trying to watch a sport. |

Sorry, never did see Dirty Dancing.
I still have visions of Julia Roberts getting out of bed in the morning with all that long gorgeous hair. Oh Lord! Gotta see it again. |

| what about Houston? with the rocket coming back, can they get into the post season? i think it will be tough, but possible, because i dont think the reds will hold up, and it looks like no other wild card candidates are coming from the east or west. so who ever gets second in the nl central gets a ticket to the postseason |

I don't know if the rocket and Roy Oswalt will be enough to save them. The Astros starting pitching besides Oswalt and Clemens hasn't been so hot. The closer Brad Lidge has a 5.79 era. They do have a decent daily lineup, but they could use another strong bat. They recently have lost three close games to the Cards. It is the all-star break so its to early to tell, but their closer and pitching will have to improve for them to make it to the postseason.
I would like to see the Reds or Brewers pick up the wild card to end their postseason drought. It is still too early to tell. One or two key injuries on these borderline teams could be devastating. I wouldn't count the Braves out of the wildcard completely though. They have a tendency to tear it up in the second half. |

Houston made that much needed trade and brought in a decent bat. They are one bullpen trade away from having a contender. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2517046
They need to trade for Tom Gordon of the Phillies. Then they would be the team to beat. Phillies are looking to unload him and he would be a good fit for Houston. However New York might be interested in bringing Flash back. They too could use him in their lineup.
Finally someone traded for Aubrey Huff. He has been in the trade rumor mill for years.

| NL has gotten destroyed by AL. Mets got smoked by AL teams in interleague play. Mets have no chance if they get to the World Series. |

| If the Jays can keep their pitching healthy maybe they can finally take a run at the BoSox and Yanks. The GM Ricarddi called out the 3,4,5 hitters at the all star game. |
