|
|
Have searched the forum for options in Gangnam, derived the following :-
1) Platinum Micro Brewery
2) Carne Station
3) COEX or Grand Intercontinental
Probably all the hotels have buffets as well, but was wondering which has the best spread (value for money) and environment. Price doesn't matter, it's a special occasion.
Side note :- Have personally tried Grand Hyatt's outdoor BBQ buffet, it wasn't that wide a spread, except for the nice poolside tranquility and hillview.
Many thanks in advance. |

Environment-wise, I've seen both the buffet areas in COEX Intercontinental and Grand Intercontinental.
The former is very basic decoration, nothing fancy and without any unique views... mostly enclosed.
The latter is at basement level and is even more enclosed except it's more tastefully decorated. Food-wise, both are equally good. The latter has a chocolate fountain though, yum. |

The Grand Kitchen Buffet at the B1 level of the Grand InterContinental is very modern, and has a huge selection. Is broken up into many sections including a great sushi / sashimi section, large salad buffet with seafoods, a Korean buffet section, then the main course section with about 20 differant dishes incuding always two types of roasts. Lastly the desert buffet with the chocolate fountain is out of this world.
Lunch is slightly cheaper than dinner, and you need to reserve if on Friday Saturday or Sunday as always full. |

I wouldn't say that Carne Station has a family environment. It's more like the cafeteria in Animal House. With booze.
You may consider VIPs, though. |

Haha. Cafeteria in Animal House! That's a good one. True. It can get like that.
I was there one night when a big group of Korean police cadets were there. About 30 of them. They went nuts!! Totally hammered. Throwing food. Shouting their heads off. Puking in the potted plants!!! Fun to watch but the swearing was horrendous.
It's not like that all the time of course. Pity. |

I will forth this.
You may want to try the Oak Room, too. They have a decent lunch time buffet. |

I've only been to two higher-end buffets in Seoul, the first of which is not in Gangnam.
The Hotel Shilla has two buffets on weekends. One is "Continental" cuisine, focusing more on non-Asian food. It's on the top floor of the hotel, I believe. Haven't eaten there. I did eat at the buffet on the first floor of the hotel and it was very good, including what I recall as very good desserts. They had some things there like soft-shell crab that I haven't seen elsewhere.
I've also tried the COEX Intercontinental. It was good, but the atmosphere and overall feel was slightly better at the Shilla.
The price of the COEX was about 5,000-8,000 won cheaper than the Shilla. For a special occasion where that price difference doesn't matter, between the two I'd recommend the Shilla. |

After reading your posts about the late Syd Barrett, I should feel obligated to apologise for my criticisms about you.
The documentary, "Pompeii," is one of the best takes on Pink Floyd: Do you have a copy of it?
There is no doubt that Syd, when he was on, was great; there is no doubt that The Floyd and their studio team have been the most interesting group of British sound artists from the '60's on, Spin. |
