| In Seoul, calling the police is effective. A friend did just that. I live in Incheon, where the police don't give a hoot. You're on your own. |

If the police call doesn't work, there are other options,
1) Find out the owner of the building and have a Korean friend / coworker call him / her to explain the situation.
2) Complain to city hall. This is probably not done in Korea so that might work in your favor because you'll get noticed.
3) Telll every Korean in your building that you think Japan is a better country than Korea because you won't hear that level of noise in ANY Japanese apartments (this is almost a fact). That might shut up your neighbor. Hell, I'd even stick a big Japanese flag on my door.
4) Last Straw. Tell your employer that you're fed up with the situation at home. You can't work exhausted because your neighbor keeps you awake all night. This is B.S. and you're outta here! Bye Bye Korea. Then fly to your new job in Japan or Taiwan. Or go to Thailand and take a rest on the beach for a few weeks. Chances are that you need the rest.
I don't think fighting fire (your neighbor's noise) with fire (your noise) is a good idea. Makes you look as stupid as your neighbor. |

I had a co-worker/ write up a notice in Korean asking the tenant to turn down his/her TV, and so far it has worked.
Mind you it took some time to find where the TV was, upstairs, next door to the right, to the left, etc. It was the tenant upstair.
I made some photocopies of the notice just in case it occurs again.
I am starting to sleep regular hours once again. |
