Alton Brown of "Good Eats" fame likes to store vidalia onions all year round - I guess they're only really available a certain time of year.

He stores them in Pantyhose.

Put an onion in the leg, tie it off, put in another onion, etc.

Hang them in the coolest place in your home (might not have one of these in korea) and as you need, snip off the bottom onion.

I haven't tried this myself. Just offering another suggestion.

In Daegu, I first found red onions at one place last year. Now they are everywhere. So if you have to toss them, you can probably find them again fairly easily if you go to a larger town.
