I've been raeding the threads but notice much of the information is more than 1-2 years old.

Have there been any changes?

How to find the embassy etc?
Places to stay?
Time it takes to process etc?

What can I do there while I wait?

Thanks for any and all input.

I'll be heading out Thursday. I was there in December and all the info I got from the FAQ was still good. Too bad it looks like it will be raining because Fukuoka is on the coast. The directions to the consulate are still correct. It's really easy to find. Getting there and back to the airport is the most important thing. Just enjoy yourself.

there's also an arcade across the street from the consulate, which has a batting cage, and if i remember correctly bowling also. the hard rock cafe (if you'd like to go there) is like a five minute (if that) walk from there if you want something to eat around that area. also the fukuoka tower is close by also. nice view from it.

I was wrong. It will be sunny and hot. Bring your swimsuit.

All the web info notes that the Embassy is open 9-5; rarely does it also say that visa issuance hours end at 3:30. Go straight there, don't stop for a nap first. The famously surly security guard makes no exceptions.

Don't forget that the consulate also closes for lunch, 1 - 2 [?]. There is a very nice Indian restaurant in the shopping mall across the street if you arrive at lunch time and have to wait around.

Are you flying? the information desk at the Fukuoka airport has maps to the consulate and suggested ways of getting there.

There is a subway right there which is very useful, takes you into town and back again.

There is an international cash machine at the post office at Hakata. There is a big shopping centre there which is nice to visit, at Hakata.. Canal City, and I really enjoyed walking around the Ohori Park...green grass and all that.

Have a great time...

Fukuoka has an apple store. ROK doesn't.

If you have a Mac, may as well pop in while you're there. It's in Tenjin. (Watanabe-dori?)

And so is Hyotan Sushi. Great value. You'll need to ask someone while you're there. It's off Tenjin North, next to a department store.

dont bother with the museum, it looks good outside, it is crap. There are a couple of strange girls working in Fukuoka tower, near the beach. Just for general info purposes. The hotel i stayed in did the porno channels for 1000 yen, which is about 10,000 won i think. I just paid it then politely pointed out i cant speak Japanese and felt like i had wasted my money- i got a refund and kept the porno, so that was quite pleasing (although the porn has a nasty habit of pixellating the best bits). The food at the airport in Fukuoka is pretty good.

There are Apple stores in Busan, Daegu (a few blocks west of Kyobo) and Seoul (COEX).
