It seems to be a neverending story with people going in circles.

Italy won the World Cup which they deserve. They were the most consistent team there.

Zidane, there or not there, would not have impacted the result of the game. He was sent off the last 10 minutes of the game. He can kick a penalty if he wasn't sent off, but Trezegeut would still be in to shoot and miss the penalty.

I am happy Italy won the World Cup because the last time they were underrated, which was in 1982, they won the World Cup. They were underrated again in 2006. I sensed a pattern, and look what happens.

For those who didn't want Italy to win, there may be a next time, just wait another 4 years or something.

That means they have a lot in common with you so I`m surprised you are not more positive towards them.

They played the best football over the long run so yes, of course they deserved to win. But much more importantly, and joyfully, they didwin...and you are being a little crybaby girly about it, which is pathetic, but typical of you...

Sour grapes always looks bad, but I must admit it kind of suits you, goes with your bitter persona perfectly...

Another school of thought more appropriate to Zidanes backstreet upbringing: "If you do nothing when someone abuses you, you are week and will be punished."

Another school of thought is that he`s not on those backstreets anymore, he`s on a football feild, and an international stage. And the whole concept of "doing something about it" when someone abuses you verbally is fine for the street, but has no place, and more importantly, no advantage, on the football feild. He was thoroughly outplayed in the psychological game that day. He didn`t "save his honor" or "protect himself" or whatever else you think he did that was positive. He proved himself mentally weak, and lacking guile and self control. He got beaten, and disgraced himself.

Most consistent bunch of
1) whining - that is what you are doing
2) diving - that is what France did in the 7th minute to earn a penalty in the final
3) cheating - oh, diving is a form of cheating

1.I'm not whining. I'm pointing out that Italy is the least deserving champion ever.
2. Ask an Australian.
3. Again, ask any Australian what he thinks about Italian diving. The truth is italy shouldnt have gone past Australia.

1) The most consistent team is the least deserving? Wow, great logic.
2) I am an Australian
3) Ok, you have my opinion... diving in the Mediteranean Sea would be a great experience.

Funny, wasn't the French penalty from a spectacular dive?

And the penalty against Portugal the result of Henry stepping on the guys foot then falling over?

Wasn't Zidane falling over rather easily?

Jeesh.......

See you EURO 2008!

If you ask me its Mazerotti who goes home in disgrace, having shown himself to be a racist. What does that do for his country's reputation?

By contrast "We love you Zhidane" was written all over Paris last night. On one hand, yes, resorting to violence was of course wrong, but on the other, his act of standing up for himself wins more admiration on a deeper level. you won't find a french person who blames him for it.

What's your connection with Italy, Satori? Itaewonguy said he was born in Italy - so clearly has a connection with the country, a real connection (not relying on grandmothers and all that sad drivel so prevalent in many Azzuri supporters I've been misfortunate enough to encounter)....are you of Italian stock? Really, I'm interested - not a flame.

Jinju, you're harsh on Italy to say the least. If they didn't deserve it, who did? Surely not France? On paper, they've a mediocre, aging squad. Paper means nothing in football of course, but it's only VERY rarely does a team not deserve a title. Italy have always had the talent but always fooked it up because of (a) tactics and (b) big players underperforming (hello Del Piero).....this time, they got it right, with great performances, clinical finishing from big players (Totti, Del Piero) and indeed less diving. Portugal are the new kings of diving. They've taken it to a whole new level.
