The most powerful voice that I love is this guy, Black Francis from the Pixies. Man! That guy can wail. |

| Best voice for male. It must be David Coverdale from Whitesnake. Awesome voice, just to know good it is, try to sing any of his songs all the way through as they're meant to be sung in a Noraebong. Best female rocker voice, I'll see Lee Aaron, http://www.leeaaron.net/ |

| One of my favorite modern female vocalists has to be Fiona Apple, but her career kinda went down the pooper. |
Have to disagree, her new album is really incredible. She doesn't get near as much attention as she deserves. If you haven't heard it yet, it's called Extrodinary Machine. Available for download from a p2p near you or all legal like through iTunes for 9.99.

To be fair, Flotsam, Kate Bush was a good suggestion of Princess's.
The problem with female singers is consistency and output. I could list 10 outstanding songs sung by female singers, but do any female singers have the output and creativity of a Mercury, a Bowie, a Lennon? Or even a Cobain? |

The best female voice is the chick who sung on Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light.
The best male voice is Johnny Cash--even though he ain't rock 'n' roll. |

Wouldn't go as far to say she's got the best female voice in rock, but Brittany Murphy sure does kick ass in the new Paul Oakenfold single "Faster Kill Pussycat."
Granted, he's more electronica than rock, but still.
You can hear it here (warning: there are two audio feeds - scroll down the page a little and pause either the video or audio) |

Depends if you mean rock in the classic sense or recorded pop music in general...
For real rock I don`t think you can go past Janis Joplin and Freddie Mercury for raw power, passion, and range, and in Freddy`s case, amazing control and technique as well. He just had so much projection and hype in his voice, it was supernatural... |
