College rocks, too.

When LSU won the national championship a few years back, I literally was in ecstasy. It would be like England winning the world cup. Hell, LSU hadn't won since the 50's.

not trying to hijack the thread, but LSU didn't deserve to get a share of the title that year. USC got screwed out of the championship game that year. everyone knows the Trojans would have killed both LSU or Oklahoma.

There ain't no way, my man. That defense would have shut the Trojans down.

You can't compare the defenses.

That was by far the best defense in college football that particular year.

In fact, the year USC won the championship free and clear, they lucked out. If they had played Auburn, they would have gotten spanked.

This is my last post on the West vs. the South.

The SEC is much more physical. And we don't have patsies like Arizona to feast upon.

When you're lucky, you get to play Vandy--who had a first round quarterback draft pick.

You got to play Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, etc.

It's almost impossible to come out undefeated. Every week is a physical beating.

Come on, man. Be serious.

The only tough game there is Notre Dame. And they should have lost that one. They should have also lost to Arizona State.

Here's my last last post to further my point.

Here are some to the dudes who played football just in my neck of the woods.

Peyton Manning.

Eli Manning.

Marshall Faulk.

Kordell Stewart.

Ed Reid.

Skyler Greene.

Warwick Dunn.

And that's just the New Orleans-Baton Rouge area.

Kordell Stewart went to Colorado, and what about OJ Simpson, Marcus Allen, Troy Aikman, Jake Plummer, Drew Bledsoe, Tedy Bruschi.

Kordell Stewart was the quarterback at my high school. John Ehret in Marrero--a suburb of New Orleans. That's where I graduated from.

Americans seem to have a problem with Soccer because it's full of play-acting and less-than-manly behavior. I actually agree, even as a life-long Soccer fan.

But anyway, that's been covered too many times and doesn't require revisitation.

The question, the REAL question, is....why don't you get better at Rugby? Can't argue with Rugby. It's tough as hell and is of clear potential appeal to the neutral. It's discernible (has few if any difficult rules), it flows, has beauty, is exciting, uses video replays (so is fair) and is just a damn fine sport. I prefer Rugby League to (the more famous) Rugby Union personally (they're so similar yet so different) and it's open to question which form of Rugby ought to take precedence amongst US observers, if any (feel free to explore that too).

Why not do Rugby, big time? Too into your own sports? Serious enquiry. Rugby is awesome. Not liking Soccer is fair enough - there's a genuine cultural divide there, I feel - but there seems little excuse to not get Rugby. Granted Rugby is nowhere near as popular in Europe as Soccer, but its audience is still substantial.

It all comes down to the forward pass. I've played tons of different sports and played wide receiver and tight end ( both positions are the guy who catches the ball) in high school. Catching a pass is one of the greatest things in sports and also one of the most beautiful things to watch in sports. Unless you've done it before, you don't know how great it is.

I think rugby is a good game but flipping the ball back and running isn't the greatest thing.

The Rugby WC is the second biggest single sporting event after the football WC. Why wouldn't it appeal as the international dimension offers something that American Football can't. Not that I am knocking NFL, I enjoy it on its merits, but at the end of the day it's pretty limited. Likewise at the grass roots level, there is nothing like the ranks of lower leagues and competitions like the heineken cup, super 14, currie cup or NPC to add subplot to the global dimension of the game. And as for the poster who said American Football is the toughest game around, you obviously haven't seen rugby league (the other rugby code) played at the highest level. Players of similar dimensions to NFL players running at each other with no padding from 10-20 meters apart. That, my friends, is football.

Never work.

We're like freaking Rome when it comes to sports. Football. Basketball. Baseball. Boxing. Hockey. Give us another sport, we won't go to work.
