Can anyone tell me which of the following is the best place for a Korean to study abroad in order to learn English: England, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand?

A Korean asked me this today and I honestly didn't know but want to point him in the right direction. I need specifics, ie, monetary, cost of living, or even good schools if you know any. I think finances aren't the question; quality and the best academic possibilities are.

I think England is the best. But I honestly don't know.

Is your friend really going to trust the judgment of a bunch of people who spend months arguing over which foods make your farts smell the worst??
What about those countries compared to the Philippines? That'd probably be the most popular destination for Koreans to study English. It'd also be the cheapest by a significant amount and a strong Korean support network should there be a problem. Koreans have this impression that Filipinos have too strong an accent. I've found that usually Filippino English teachers have a far far more neutral accent than any of the other countries you listed. Private English tuition there is $2US an hour. How does that compare price wise to the other countries???? Smile
I'm GUESSING England has the most reputable universities but is the most expensive.
The Oz Embassy in the Kyobo Building has a large Education Information Center for Koreans who want to study there. Possibly that's a good start for your friend. I wouldn't be suprised if many of the other countries you listed also have similar.

??????! Don't get it.

Well, are you Fillipino? I'd go there but I think it's a little dangerous and more poverty stricken then the others mentioned, too much for a Korean to find alluring and secure.

I know Koreans go there. I'll tell him. But I think this guy wants a little cultural imput too. The Phillipines may not have this aspect to offer.

Then there are those stone aged bushmen guys. . .

If he does decide to go to Canada, just advise him not to go to Quebec, as I've met many Koreans who went there to learn English, had a rough time but learned decent French. Shocked

too much to see and do.. might get alittle bored in NZ if you have no mates and such.. sydney you'll be right mate!!
opera house, center point, blue mountains, harbour bridge.. etc..
darling harbour heaps to see and do.. more ethnic races and culture..
its half price compared to USA.. and pretty much all on offer MINUS the guns! and violence in your face as in big cities in the US..
Kangaroos, koalos, day trips to gold coasts..
yeah all good..

If my students ask me, I usually recommend New Zealand (because of the aforementioned cheap factor).

Hey 3 dog night don't ask for people's advice and then attack them when they give it. I'm sorry that you're too scared to go to the Philippines. That's your problem and not the thousands of Koreans who are already studying there obviously. I guess you're not that much of a coward. You did come to Korea (presumably) in spite of the bad media coverage it gets. Would it be too much to assume that maybe other countries get similar bad press?????

And so what if I am Filippino. You've decided that ONLY people from first world countries can answer your questions now???? Is that it?????
Ha!! and cultural input. You don't know what you're talking about!!!!!!!

Camel96-You're being outlandish. I don't think I implied the PI was bad in and of itself, nor did I criticize you. I just said there might be a better environment in some of the other Western countries, and this in a cultural sense.

I love the PI. But yes, I'm "not that much of a coward" like you said. I just don't have the cash and time, nor the desire to be tempted by all those loose women and bushwacked by those crazy rebels.

Goes without saying Smile

But seriously, for a Korean, I would assume it would be better for them to go to a North American country, either Canada or America, as Koreans learn American English.

I think the P.I. would be the best value for your money.
