I've never flown with Korean Air. I came to Korea via Emirates.
My mother flew to Korea on Korean Air and she said they were great.
What's your view?
On planes, especially long-haul journeys, important things to me are quality of the entertainment system and good service, plenty of food and drink on offer. On Singapore Airlines, on a 13+ hour flight, I was only fed twice, which was too little. Anyway, I've heard a horror story about K-Air. I've heard there's no entertainment system (read: screen on back of seat in front of you, huge selection of movies which you can watch at will from start to finish, huge music selection, TV programs....blah blah). I've heard that K-Air, on my friend's particular flight at least, had the terribly old-fashioned system of a couple of PG-movies shown on screens above the aisles and, er, that's it! If Korean Air wishes to be a truly top-notch airline, aside from safety (obviously the most important, before some tosser points that truism out), it needs an up-to-date entertainment system because 12 hour flights are ordeals without plenty to do.
I'm flying on Korean Air to London in August. Anyone been on these 747s who can answer my questions?
More generally: Korean Air, any flight, any time, your verdict please. Thanks. |

I flew Korean Air the first time I came here last year from Canada. The service was good but yes the movie system sucked. They showed an old english movie and then a korean movie, with no subtitles on either. For a 13 hour flight it was pretty much torture.
The other thing I didn't like was that all the meals were crappy korean food. I like korean food but these really sucked.
I hope your flight is better but I would be prepared to provide your own entertainment. |

If Korean Air has that entertainment system, it's a shlt airline. It's THAT simple. |

The last time I flew with KAL they didn't have a top-notch entertainment system - no screen on the back of the seat. To be honest, it's unforgivable. I prefer Singapore or Cathay for this reason. Having said that, I never had a problem with the service or the food on KAL, but for me the entertainment system is key on a 6+ hour flight.

I don't know what happened on the other poster's flight but everytime I have flown them they have been great--normal food, normal movies, good sized seats(not like Thai...). I like Korean better than Asiana--and the new uniforms are enough reason by themselves to fly with them. |

When I flew in from Chicago in March, I did have my own screen on the seat back in from front of me. Watched six movies and got some sleep in one of the more comfortable seats I've been in on a plane.
When I flew to Istanbul in early June, it was a central screen, but I had reading to do, so I wasn't bothered.
When I flew back from Atlanta at the end of June, it was a central screen and Mr. Big Head sat in the (appropriately named) bulkhead row in front of the screen, cutting off half the subtitles of the Korean film. It's a fourteen hour flight. I read two novels, tried to sleep (uncomfortable seat this time), but given that I wound up with some time to kill, I would have liked an individual screen and more choice.
It seems that it depends on what kind of plane is being used for the particular flight whether you get the individual screen or not. I'm sure there's a place where you can look it up and know before you book.
Agree with Flotsam re the new uniforms and the quality of the food and drink service. |

I *think* the newer planes have better entertainment...I fly back to the UK pretty regularly and have yet to have an in seat screen..
but i think the service and the seats somewhat make up for it...and the uniforms yes..
but the reason I fly korean air is because its consistantly the cheapest carrier...i hate to bust out the old cliche but you get what you pay for. |

I definitely think that whether or not you get a movie screen in the back of the chair depends on the plane not the carrier. I've flown on United and Korean Air and United had the screen once but none of the other times and I think it was because it was a 767(?). I also flew Asiana and it had a sweeeeeet entertainment system with movies and games(!). The food was good too. |

I flew from Atlanta to Incheon yesterday on a KAL 747. The 747 doesn't have the individual seat screen. The KAL 767 that flies the Chicago-Incheon route does have the individual seat screen. |

When I flew just over 2months ago there was a central screen and they only played two crappy movies and then had it switched off for the rest of the flight! grr!! BUT the flight attendants did look very pretty....that's about all the pros I can think of right now. |

I have no interest in the in-flight entertainment and care little whether an airline has screens on the seat backs. A book, valium and a couple of beers are far more interesting before sleep kicks in.
So, halfway decent food, no question when I ask for 2 beers, and any Asian airline is better than any US airline (and most Eurpoean ones too). |

ooh ooh....when i flew a couple of weeks ago they brought round these microwave pizzas in a little cardboard tube..
I was amazed..pizza in a tube..what is the world coming to? That alone made up for any lack in entertainment. |
