I need to go to the American Embassy to get more visa pages added to my passport now that I'm going to be staying here. Their website says that they are in Jong-no. Try as I might, I can't find it on my subway map. I CAN find Jong Ro 3 ga and Jong Ro 5 ga.

The closest subway stop to the US Embassy is Gwanghwamun on Line 5.

You want the Gwanghwamoon subway stop. I'm pretty sure it's on line 5, but I may be wrong. From there, I believe it's exit 2, and straight out, can't miss.

Once you hit the subway station, you can find many maps of the immediate area and its on there.

But yes, Jong-no is the same as Jung-ro.

KPRROK

PS - I believe that if you FAX the request down to the embassy the day before you go, it'll save you a couple of hours. If you just do it all on one day, I think it takes about 3 hours, versus 30 minutes if you FAX it. Check wtih the embassy.

You need to go to Gwanghwamun (line 5). Take exit 2 and go straight for about a city block; it'll be on your right.

You clearly have not been watching enough AFN. Wink

I'm sorry things didn't work out for you with your plans to go back to the US.

Son Deure, AFN mentions the embassy?! I do watch it a lot...well, I listen to it. Okay, so the TV is background noise to drown out the drunk park parties. As for the going back to America, perhaps it's for the best. But, thank you. Smile

Nok-Yong, thank you so much for saying "on your right" and not north, south, east, or west. Smile Smile Smile

kprrok, Thank you for confirming the weird r n thing.! I thought it might be...we had a student whose name was confusing as it wasn't Noc-Hyun and it wasn't Roc-Hyun, but no one could explain to us exactly how to say or spell it. That's what tipped me off. Smile
I have already scanned in the application and my passport and e-mailed it to the embassy. Tomorrow, I'll ask my boss to fax it as well, just to be sure. Smile

heydelores, Thank you very much! Smile

Can anyone tell me where to find "Gangnam"? I have an interview there on Friday. My boss gave me the afternoon off so I could go. Obviously I'm trying to get both things done at once as I'm not in Seoul and work all day long. Wish the embassy were open on the weekends. Sad Anyway, the interview is in Gangnam. Is there a subway stop called that?

Man I hate the revised romanization. It was easier to call it Kagnam.

Hi pet lover. The Gangnam exit is on Line 2 (green), but there might be a closer stop to the location of your interview. You might want to call and ask.

Oh yea, you're welcome! Always glad to help.

Let me give it a shot.

Do you know Kyobo Bookstore?

Don't go in. Go to the corner of the two big streets. (Sbarro Pizza place used to be across the street but disappeared.) If you look NORTH, up the street, there is the Yi Soon-Shin statue in the middle of the street.

Keep to the same side of the street as you are on (Kyobo is on your right)...just keep walking till you come across a bunch of young guys in grayish military uniforms with batons and shields on their arms. These are the demonstration police sent out to protect the US embassy.

The embassy is there, on your right. Not all that far up the street (NORTH) from Kyobo.

[On the one hand, I'm glad you're staying on here--although I may be leaving--but on the other, I'm sorry you're not headed back home to live-in bliss. Keep on keeping on!....or as my good friend Suzie Creamcheese said, "Maintain!"....that was when she was coherent. The night she set the armchair on fire was not one of those times. She was coherent when she said Joe DiMaggio's nephew was a lousy lay, but that came in the midst of her winter living in a teepee outside Vail. Take it for what it is worth. Very Happy ]

Oh my god Gangnam is SO far from the American Embassy! I don't think I'm going to be able to pull this off!

Okay....I'll go with the two-way courier and hope that they don't take forever.

pet lover, another possibility is to take line 3 down to Sinsa station. Get out at exit 4 and walk straight until you reach the bus shelters in the middle of the road. Get on any bus in the bus lanes, and get off at either "Kyobo Tower Saegori" or "Gangnam Station" stops, both of which are in the Gangnam station area. Probably faster than taking line 3 down to Syodae and changing trains (yet again). Good luck to you if you do go ahead with the plan to do both things at the same time.

jinju, I don't live in Seoul. I live in a small town that ends in "-ri". If you can't grasp the implications of that, perhaps you should study more Korean. Or eat some chocolate....anything to kill off that raging pms of yours.
