Ok, here's the deal. I'm looking to take a vacation from Seoul to somewhere fairly inexpensive. I'm thinking maybe Jeju or even just Busan. I'm open for any suggestions. How do find info on the train, ferry, flights, etc. I have checked out the korail website, but I couldn't find an accurate price from Seoul to Mokpo, then I obviously have to take a ferry to Jeju. Anway idea what a train ticket to Mokpo, and a ferry ride to Jeju would cost? I'd like to fly but tickets seem hard to come by, and if I could take the scenic route and save a few bucks, I would definetly do it. Thanks!!!

GO TO THAILAND!!

Fly in to an island and live like a king for $500. Of course, you need to pay for your super cheap airfare. GO TO THAILAND!! I met people from all over the world and met every thai person that could speak english. I wouldn't trade it for anything and it was soo cheap. FLy into an island like Koh Samui or koh tau and you'll realize it's the best thing you ever spent so little money on. Pack a bikini and some shorts!! Can't wait to go back and get a dive master certificate. Go snorkelling, but don't pay for it. Find a good beach and pay $2 for the gear yourself.

I've gone from Seoul to Chejudo overland, train to Mokpo, ferry to Cheju and while it did save me a few bucks, I can't say I recommend it. Train (mugungwha) plus ferry fare cost about W50,000 each way. The train to Mokpo took 5-1/2 hours, and the ferry took about 5-1/2 hours too, add in the wait for the ferry and the whole trip took close to 13 hours. The sea on the way to Cheju can get pretty rough, about halfway into the trip the ship turned into a floating vomitorium.

If you're really deadset on taking the scenic route to Chejudo from Seoul, an easier way would be to take a ferry from Yeonan Pier in Incheon, that takes about 14 hours each way and costs about W90K roundtrip.

Thanks to the new Cheju Air airline, round trip plane tickets to Cheju can be as low as W100,000 and it takes less than an hour. If you haven't been to Cheju yet, by the way, I definitely recommend it.

Another nice, cheap getaway is the Yellow Sea islands, very quiet, nice beaches, good times. Do a search on "yellow sea" plus my username and you'll find lots of good info on this board about them. Deokjeokdo is my favorite.

Some other nice places to visit:

Sokcho (Seoraksan plus a great beach)
Danyang (beautiful river plus an amazing mountain temple)
Gyeongju (Shilla dynasty capitol, the Kyoto of Korea), plus it's close to Busan

Heh, king or queen!! Apparently, lady boys are highly valued and celebrated in Thailand. So are many other things. I met and seen a few. If you want to shop take twice as much. If you just want to eat, sleep and hang out at the beach. yeah!!! $500!!! no problem.

Not that much cheaper than a plane anymore, and since you end up losing the better part of a day's worth of vacation time, it's probably not really worth the money you do save.

Just fly.
