Its not a joke either. The guy who processed my paperwork was almost angry that we asked to apply for it. |

I applied for an F5 this morning. My wife called and asked what we needed, the guy on the phone forgot about a guarantee form, the woman at the desk sorted it out with my wife on the phone. My wife faxed the form back, she said it'll take about 2 months to sort out, they'll investigate and then make a decision.
She didn't want to keep my passport though?!
Those of you who have an F5, did you get something stamped in your passport? |

| They didn't keep my passport either - just a receipt to say that I applied for an F5 but was keeping my own passport and ID card. |

Could anyone who knows for sure post all the advantages of having an F-5 rather than an F-2 or F-2-1 visa?
From what tzechuk posted it seems like with the F-5 we no longer need to renew the visa... ever again. Is that right? Then, the F-5 visa is good until... death?
In the eye of the Law, with the F-5, are we considered more of less like Koreans without Korean citizenship?

Tzechuk, what exactly did you receive? Just a new ID card with F5 on it.
Do you know what happens when you leave the country. I have to get wife to look at the Korean section of the immigration website, but if you know about it, please explain.

The F5 never expires. The card you are given has nothing in the "period of sojourn" boxes at the bottom on the back. |

Had F5 for a while now...
It's the Korean version of permanent residence.
No entry/exit restrictions or charges. No renewals. Limited voting rights. Any job you like (in theory) including self-employed. No "dependency" clause- you're free to reside here even in the event that you split from your partner... how this would pan out in practice I'm not sure.
No idea w'happen when my passport expires though... wait and see.
F5 and jiggy wid it! |
