| You know those beggar-looking old men and women pulling around the garbage carts (I know that is not the best way to word things, but I'm tired). Anyways, she is having trouble pushing it up the hill so I stop and help her. She goes on with lots of thank yous and how Korean people are unhelpful (obviously a blanket statement, which is almost never correct, but you get the point). Anyways, now everyone around my apartment says hi or thanks me. Word does get around quickly. I saw her again today and she needed help lifting something heavy. 30 seconds of my time, no problem. I don't know if there is a point to this post. Heck, I am probably subconsciously just showing off. But people notice everything we do. It comes with the territory. |

Good for you! I think every little bit helps. You did tell her you were from the U.S. right? 
I have been told by a few of my more cultured friends that representing who you are and where you come from is a full time job. That EVERYONE is watching ALL of the time. |

Actually, she never asked, so I didn't even think of it. She just said foreigners are nice  |

| Its amazing how one little nice thing goes such a long way. My biggest trick is to give something to my doormen. They will do anything for you. I gave them a bottle of that gold wine. I never had to sort my recycling again! |

That's cool. Nice to hear stories like this instead of "I got kicked out of a noribong lastnight cus I pulled the pin on a fire extinguisher."
One could almost start a club for expats that want to do nice things on the street. I heard about some dudes who pick up garbage on the hiking trails. As for me, when I order jajamyon or whatever, I wash the plates and get rid of the garbage before putting them outside my door. And I tip. |

| As for "those dudes that pick up trash on the hiking trails" that's the Korean Mountaineering League. They go on a monthly clean-up once a month (usually to Pukhansan since most of the members live in the Seoul area). If anybody's interested, here's their website: http://www.kmleague.org/ |

I did that too when I moved in to my new apartment. They were all gruff at first but then I bought them a couple of boxes of Bacchus and now they're super friendly. All for a grand total of 6,000 won. |

I had a student do that in my class a few weeks ago if that counts. White stuff everywhere, looked like it was Christmas. |
