I got a cheap used phone and now I need to put money on it. Card phone that is. I would like to know if there is any link to find a LG dealer/service place in my neighborhood. I looked at their english site and can't find crap. Thanks. |

I've only used the site to get the software to get my pics from phone to computer.
Wasn't really user-friendly as I recall. (Now I can't even find the cable.. grr.)
Curious, why used and why card? I got my new phone for 10,000 won, use it constantly, even calling home a few times a month for less than 50,000/month.
Any LG phone place will direct you to (one LED me to) the nearest one who will deal with your situation. |

If you live in a large city, you should be able to find LG outlets where you can charge your card just walking around.
Card phones are cheaper than regular phones if you don't use them to chat on and, instead, just use them for necessary communications. Also, you can buy calling cards for your card phones that keep the price way down for that too.
Why I use a card phone:
I bought a 10,000won card about 7 months ago and still have 6 minutes left on it (I don't make alot of calls). Of course I have to pay 10,000/month to keep the phone active. Basically I'll end up paying about 150,000 this year for my phone use. Compared to the average 50,000won phone billl a month, that's 600,000 a year. I really just look at it in that 450,000won a year difference, or to me 1 return flight to Thailand/Philippines/Japan a year. Of course if I did enjoy talking on the phone, I'd be with the monthly plan for sure. |

Never thought about it like that. But I'm a message maniac, and use it a lot. (Have a wife and teen, and a friend or two) Have fun travelling!
Imagine the savings if I quit smoking. |

Let me know where to get a regular phone. Everytime I went to get one they asked me for a korean ID card. Card phones are all they offered to foreigners. |

From what I gather, if you don't have an ARC/aren't registered to legally work in the country, you can't get a monthly phone plan. If you have one, it's no problem to get signed up. If you can't speak Korean well, then bring a friend. |

I know you! Remember, I always had a Soju Mama to take care of things. The phone stores are ubiquitous. Need us to set you up? |

Great, thanks for the info... I will be getting my ARC delivered to me sometime soon.
I was wondering what the monthly plans were like. How many minutes for how long, setup fees, etc? (I've really got to learn Korean while I'm here it would make things so much easier.) |

I had planned on getting a card phone, but I'd never heard of this 10,000won monthly charge. Is this for all card phones? If so then it's really not much cheaper even if you never use your phone. I had a monthly plan last year, rarely used it, and ended up paying about 15,000won a month (why are you saying average 50,000? you have to compare apples to apples, chatters to chatters us quiet types to other quiet types). I don't think I ever even used it enough to go above the basic 15,000won fee.
Anyone know any more about monthly fees for card phones? |

I wonder if they meant maybe that the W10,000 airtime expires in 30 days is more is not added. That's how my prepaid phone in America works, I've never quite understood my Korean phone. (Make calls until it doesn't work anymore, go to the store and put another W10,000 on.) |

Sorry for the confusion, I'll clear things up.
When you charge your phone (usually 10,000) that amount only lasts for 30 days. You have to pay another 10,000 or the service will be de-activated, even if you have credit remaining after 30 days are up.
Also, I used the 50,000 won/month as a direct response to mole's question of why some one would use a card phone. In his post where he asks the question, he said 'less than 50,000 won' so I just used that number. |

50k was my quote, yes. I've had a little over and usually under that monthly. I'm sure better plans are available. But I'm lazy.
Have I said that enough on Dave's? |

Thanks for the clarification. I had heard that card phone balances don't expire here. Too bad. |
