Do you guys ever have that sporadic worm attacking you on the internet? Thank goodness I have Norton's Anti-virus. Dude...I can just imagine the amount of junk my PC would be subject to. Once or twice a week for about 3 to 15 minutes, a worm tries to get into my PC. You guys had better watch out!!!

seems like my computer is attacked by malicious-ware every week (no, I don't visit sites that would have those types of viri).

My Norton's Anti-Virus catches worm intrusions at least twice a week. Some are even trojan intrusions through various ports. Dudes, I have my PC on lockdown. I know anything and everything that tries to get into my baby.

My firewall reports port scans at least 3 times a day, but no serious intrusion attempts have been made.

Usually those kinds of attacks are just ICMP scans, buffer underun attacks, and scripts that are seeking out infected systems running certain services (trojans), and are mostly harmless. Even the XP firewall can prevent those sorts of attacks. I have 10,468,105 such attacks in my firewall log just from the past 30 days. Do I care? No. However, I do check the logs of both my firewall and security events (for my system), occasionally to make sure that nothing screwy is going on.

Korea is a mecca for script junkies and wannabe hackers and since most of the ISPs are running dynamic addresses, it is not so hard just to plugin an address range and try to get into any computers that happen to be using those IPs at that time. It also stands to reason that someone used those IPs in risky places on the net before you had the opportunity to reuse it as your net access portal.

The real threat is when someone specifically targets your machine because they want something specific, and they know what they are doing. I had this happen to me two years ago as a result of a post I put up on this site. The guy tried to hack not only my computer, but also my parents computer. The idiot actually used his company server to run the attack which allowed me to get more information on him than he ever could have hoped to have gotten on me, had he actually been able to get in (he has major tracks all over the internet). Luckily he wasn't able to get anything from either computer.

Do yourself a favour a drop Norton as soon as you can. Avast and AVG are better and they're free as weel. Get Kapersky if you're really worried.

Agreed, Norton has become the new AOL that is shipped with every computer for first time users.
