FIFA will likely award it to Australia.
South Africa has zero chance of meeting the neccessary demands of public safety, media accomodation, acceptable stadia, etc.
They have made no progress in these areas since being awarded the tournament, and the forecast is very dim.
Some polititions, including Howard are having a big meeting today. On the agenda will be a bid for the 2018 WC, but its just a stalking horse to show FIFA that they could in fact host it instead of SA.
The 2014 WC will go to South America, almost certianly Brazil.
Thinking well ahead to2018, FIFA have desinated it a European based World Cup and England would be virtually unopposed if they decide to make a bid as Spain/Italy/France/Germany have all hosted it since England's last time in 1966. |

Unfortunately South Africas ability to host international sporting activities collapsed at about the same time as apartheid did. They used to have the F1 there too years ago.
I think SA will get a lot of help though. This could be the only chance Africa gets to host it, ever. |

Hopefully SA gets it's act together. An African WC would be breathtaking.
Brazil and then England followed by Aussie cups? Wow, would love to go to all 3 of those. Sweet. |

SA hosted the rugby world cup a few years back with few problems.
I'd love it to go to Australia as I've got loads of mates over there I could stay with, but it would be fairer if an alternative African nation can be found, Mocorro could be an idea, they've bid for the WC so many times they must have the stadiums or at least plans to build them.......then again there's security concerns about giving it to a muslim nation. |

South Africa just don't have the funding to follow through on promises to build dozens of new hotels and make major upgrades to existing stadiums, and also to provide public areas for fans free of the threat of violent crime. These were all conditions subject to FIFA final approval.
They won't meet them.
Australia would be fantastic though, i've also got loads of mates out there as well so accomadation would be sorted. |

The WC in SA would be an interesting reason to head over there, but Aussie would kick ultimate ass. |

Well, as of now, safety conditions in SA are a very real concern.
There's even talk of an "exodus" for the people who can afford to leave.
Yes, it would be good to see the Cup hosted in Africa, but not if they can't get their sh*t together.
An Aussie Cup would rock! |

My understanding is the the 2010 WC is being held in South Africa....or at least there is a link stating this via FIFA's website. So I guess this argument is over.
As for Toronto getting one, we are hosting the 2007 U20 WC so it will depend on how they fair with this sporting event on the prospects of a mens WC hosting. |

I hear the US may get the 2014 World Cup. Brazil doesn't have the infrastructure. Remember the 1994 World Cup had the highest attendence of any World Cups.
Who will be able to afford to attend matches in South Africa or Brazil? Heck the Koreans didn't attend matches here that didn't involve Korea or Brazil
Besides FIFA can make a ton of money off a US World Cup |

There is no chance the US will get the 2014 WC. It was held there only in 94 so they don't have a hope in hell.
And as I have heard nothing about the 2010 venue being changed from a reputable source, e.g. I am pretty certain it will be in South Africa and I'm sure they will do it well. |

There was a rumor (statement by someone in FIFA) that it would go to the USA but Blatter is still insisting it will be SA. I never heard Aus.
Also the feeling is Europe will get every 2nd Cup so it would be back there
in 14... |
