Yeah, you have to start off on the right foot with the kids. On my first day, I had my howler monkeys come in and grab the first one who talked and eat 'em alive. No problems now. It's just like prison, you have to be tough on the first day. Now, all I have to do is mention my howler monkeys, and the kids are quiet.
Seriously, Dan had some great ideas, also one reason the boys could be doing it is that they are bored with the material or opposite, it's too hard for them. |

hey thanks for all the helpful info guys i will give it a go
i think that there is a case of two of the boys finding the material a little difficult so are playing the clown so they dont look stupid in front of the other kids
i get great support from the k teachers and they are finding some of the kids to be brats for them as well
i will try the yellow card idea and also the activity thing as well...i think the greatest punishment is being sent out of class while the other "darlings" play a game
i do use the stamp technique and that usually works a charm |

I, too, am having problems with the bad behaviour of some students. I tried the tactic of removing one troublesome boy from the classroom, & locking the doors & windows, so he couldn't get back in (it's summer & the room is air conditioned anyway). I then announced to the class that anyone else who wasn't interested in learning English could join him.
This quitened down the class considerably, & several diligent students even broke into applause & called out "Good job Chris!" They were obviously fed up with the disruptive behaviour as well. Made my day, & made me realise that it's worth persevering for the sake of those good students who do take a serious interest in learning. |
