I'm coming to Seoul this weekend and am looking for a relatively cheap place to stay. The only reason I am coming is to eat tasty food in Itaewon, so I would like a place near there. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you have no luggage besides what can fit in a locker, then the Hamilton Hotel has a jimjilbang downstairs you can stay there for 6000 Won. If you can be oblivious to the unabashed racism there then that's an option I guess.

Up the street and up the long stairs the mosque has another jimjilbang that I think is 7000 or 10,000 to stay overnight. I found it a much friendlier place but you have to get in before a certain time, I think it's 10pm or something like that.

But everyone has different experiences, you may get really nice staff on your night at the Hamilton.

There are motels around but I don't imagine you'll get a quiet night's sleep at any of those. From what I hear, Itaewon motels are mostly populated by drunk frat boys watching each other take turns banging hookers in rituals of vaguely homo-erotic bonding. Sounds loud.

Then there are the hotels. $$

I do NOT recommend sleeping at the jimjilbang under the Hamilton Hotel unless you enjoy being groped in the middle of the night by strange men.

In fact, I don't particularly recommend sleeping in jimjilbangs in general unless you enjoy sleeping in the same room with dozens of complete strangers. Heck, I even had my locker robbed in one once.

I avoid those places like the plague.

If you want to stay in a really cheap place, go to a goshiwon/고시원. There are plenty in Itaewon, and cost W10,000-W15,000 per night. You get a tiny room, a twin bed, and that's about it.

If you want something a bit more luxurious, go to Shinchon where there are a ton of love motels for W30,000-W50,000.

This is your best bet for relatively cheap and decent in Itaewon:

Seoul Motel
(서울모텔)
795-2266 nicest motel in Itaewon
exit 4 in the same building of McDonald's
40,000W(weekends 45,000W)/ twin 70,000W

Check the link out for descriptions of all the motels/hotels and eating places around Itaewon...

all the motels in itaewon smell like mildew & are really small & nasty
