It depends on what type of job you are applying for. If you are applying for a job teaching business english then wearing a suit may be appropriate. I think an upper body and head shot is close enough (but not too close to your mug). If your applying for say a high school or primary school than smart casual is appropriate. Smiling is imporatnt, because it shows your approachable and friendly. Also if you have alot of ear peircings and say a facial piercing - take them out just in case potential employers like to discriminate on that basis. I put all my piercings back in once I got the job and everything is completely cool. Most places are desparate for teachers that a couple of extra piercings don't matter - once you've signed the contract that is!

Also, make sure you at least include an email address. One of my references got a call from a uni trying to contact me because I had forgotten to put both an email address and phone number on my CV.
