I have noticed a complete lack of sugar free foods and drinks. I know there is Coca-Cola Light and Zero but what else is there?
Surely not everyone in this country prefers to drink sugar all day!
I hate it when I order coffee and I get a cup that is sweetended! Same with iced tea.
Do you buy sugar free beverages or food?
How about some sugar free ice-cream! |

Welcome to Asia.
The first coffee I had in Malaysia literally made me sick. It tasted like warm dessert - the last thing I wanted at 4am.
The fruit juice I had in India turned me off the stuff for two years (and I still rarely drink it). 'Fresh' pineapple and oranges juices with eight spoons of sugar. Where else in the world do you have to order, 'fresh orange juice, no sugar'?!
We hosted members of a Vietnamese company once, and they lived on sugary, fizzy drinks. Admittedly, Koreans are nowhere near as bad, and they often go for alternative drinks. But they're mighty fond of their ice cream. |

Everything has sugar in it in some form. Being a diabetic, this is the worst place for trying to control ones levels. Thailand, Hong Kong, The Phillipinnes, China and Japan no problems. Here a nightmare. |

There's always water. And 100% fruit juice is certainly available and it even says "100" on the bottle. Coffee I just make myself at home (and drink black). Just avoid the processed, packaged crap that is so abundant here. In the words of Jack LaLane: "if man made it, don't eat it." |

God, Korea and their sugar. I'll never understand how they can make a perfectly salty looking chip or cracker taste like sugar, but they can't make a decent chocolate cake. I've never seen a place that likes sugar so much. |

I tried to contact Coke and ask them distribute Diet Sprite (or Sprite Light as it is called in other Asian countries). But recently, Korea started to make a drink called 'CC'. It's not sugar-free, but it's pretty close with only 10 calories per 100ml. It comes in lemon and another flavor (apple or pear). The lemon is quite good. |

Yes, I have seen the CC drinks....very low sugar with just 2g of carbohydrates per serving. Tasty!
I could not find any Amino Zero at Home Plus though............ |

The Amino Zero is pretty good. It comes in a short, blue bottle.
There's also a sugar-free flavoured sparkling water that comes in lemon and pear flavours...I think it's called CC or something similar...be careful though the apple one is not sugar-free.
If you are ordering a coffee at a Starbucks you can request a finesweet (pine sweet to be understood) and it is the Korean equivalent of the Equal sugar substitute from home. You can also buy packages of the Finesweet in Carrefours.
hope that helps |

I know I'm just dreaming here, but has anyone ever found Diet Rite? I just tried it while home for the summer. It's awesome! Are there ANY drinks made with Splenda? OK, I can hear you laughing! |

I must admit that this is a suprising thread to me. I JUST ate lunch with a Korean friend of mine and she complained about how sweet the food was here in the U.S. and said that white rice in Korea was sweet for her. |

*beep* ing right man! If there's only one thing I can agree with you on, it's that.
Actually, no I don't. What the hell does fizz have to do with it?
"Sugar free" is garbage:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sucralose
Read the history:
Quote: |
Sucralose was discovered in 1976 by scientists from Tate & Lyle, working with researchers at Queen Elizabeth College (now part of King's College London). It was discovered by Leslie Hough and a young Indian chemist, Shashikant Phadnis. The duo were trying to make an insecticide. |
That's just sick. Absolutely sick, and says it all. You're replacing one chemical with another. Use pure cane sugar in modest amounts, get some excercise and stop your whining.
Ahh, you have diabetes? Well, I'm talking about the people who drink these chemicals to lose weight. It's like switching from heroin to methadone. |
