Showing any kind of preference to Apple is like showing support for the U.S. on this forum. It opens you up to attacks from all sides. Then they blame the Mac users like it's our fault they scream at us that were stupid for using any Apple product. It's quite bizarre. As I pointed out in another thread, this happens with practically no other product on the market.

That's completely untrue and actually shows that you are thinking about this much more than we are. Liking Apple shows support for the US??!!! Jeez. I've heard it all now.
I think Apple make medium quality well-styled products. But you cult members think things like the i-pod are fashioned by the gods and give the user instant super-cool status. Which is actually quite weird because most of the people I see with i-pods are quite nerdy types (and no. I've nothing against nerds!!). |
Not untrue at all. Almost any time an Apple product is mentioned on this forum the product and user are flamed from all over telling them how wrong they are for using anything besides Windows or Linux. You want me to find the links for you?
And, you completely misunderstood what I said. Likeing an Apple product is not showing support for the U.S., beyond the fact that it's a U.S. company, anyway. I made the comparison because when someone show's support on this forum for something the U.S. has done, the same kind of attacks happen.
Now, I already said if these other players have the features the OP wants, then go ahead and buy them. If the iPod doesn't suit your need, then it would be a waist of money to get one. He's got a lot of iPod peripherals, already owns a 15 gig one, and is just wondering about a new one. Why do some of you find that so offensive?
If he wants to change then he can change. Obviously he's a fan of it though since he wants to upgrade. You all can't respect that. It apparently just chaps your ass that someone would use an iPod when there's dozen's of other players out there. It's almost as if the very idea of there being an Apple Corp. and an iPod is offensive to you and I have no idea why.
Pull your head out of your crack.

Im not an apple fan by any means of the imagination, cant stand them as a company! but they just happen to make a reliable, simple to use compact product that suits my need.
I was very lucky and my work gave me the 15gig as a present for doing a good job and at the time i was happy with my Net MD but once i started to use it and be able chuck MP3's at it nice and quick i was hooked!
Now i have used Macs when i was at Uni and i have to say they are the most unreliable pieces of junk! all the brand new shiny macs in our production office crashed, lost work, slow etc etc my PC ran the same programmes with no problems, no slow down and no loss of work, it got to the point that i had an argument with our head of year over it and managed to persuade her to let me work at home so i could get my work done on time!
So apple and macs suck but i have yet to see a better, RELIABLE product on the market when it comes to an MP3 player, my previous job was working in a very large electrical store in the UK and because i was the only one who knew about these "new-fangled" MP3 things it was one of my departments and we had about 60 different models in at any one time and i tested all of them so i have a bit of an idea of what im talking about.
So stick that in yer pipe!

hmm...
Honestly, it seems to me that electro-products can all be hit and miss. I here people bitch bout apple...I hear people say apple make the best computers they have used....
I dunno. I figure, in an ideal world where no computers suddenly "crashed" or whathaveyou, people would be pretty happy with whatever kinda piece of crap they had.

It's true. In Korea if you mention 'Apple' or 'iPod' a lot of Kult-of-Korea types (Moonies perhaps?) get all huffy and start trying to 'prove' how local stuff is so much better. As if.
Listen Eamo, Apple is listed as the world's most innovative company for good reason. iPods may not be the #1 large capacity player in good ol' Korea, but they are in the rest of the world.
ipod owner = nerdy type? You should really argue based on specs, software and ease-of use rather than insulting all 14 million (just in 2006) 'pod users. But if you insist: You mean like those guys in Myung-dong with lipstick and little 512 MB Yepps or cellphones around their necks, humming the latest 'Gay-pop' ballad (and no. I've nothing against gays!!)? If that's the case just shoot us all now. |

Okay. 14 million i-pods were sold. Fine. You know, I think it is a good product. Really. I'm not anti-Apple. The i-pod is a pretty good MP3 player.
It's the cultural icon-thing it has become that troubles me. For example, now we have the 'podcast' fad. The i-pod is becoming the generic name for MP3 players and its associated technology. My problem is that I don't believe it deserves that status. It's just an MP3 player. Circut board and buttons. And remember how much teething problems it had with the faulty screens and such?
My point is that Apple know their market. They have carved a niche as the 'cool' product. I'm more of a nuts and bolts guy. I don't go for 'sleek' or 'style'. I'm into functionality. That's why I bought the i-Station V43. It does all that an i-pod does but an amazing amount more.
In saying that...if all you want is an MP3 player then the i-pod is a good buy. |

Sounds like your one of those people who hate the big guy just because he's big. If your V-thingie dominated the market you'd probably be in here saying the same type of things about iStation. Why should you care one way or the other if it's a cultural icon? Why should the word podcast bother you? No one will ever force you to buy one. Even if some teenager buys one only because he/she wants to be "cool", why should that effect you in any way? They didn't steal your money to purchase it. Do you hate Nike too? Do you hate Pepsi? These things are cultural icons in the same way that the iPod is. Nike is one of the most recognized brands in the world. You can show it to some starved eithopian 10 year old and he'll probably start to give you a rundown of his favorite commercials.
Windows is the same way. It's the dominant OS for 90 to 95% of the worlds computer owners. And don't even get me started on their "teething problems". It spans nearly three decades. They still can't get their crap together. Vista has been delayed what now...for 2 years?
You like your iStation, then hallelujah. It works for you, you don't need to buy an iPod, you don't even need to consider it and no one is telling you to. But why does someone else's purchase even register in your mind? Why do you care if it's a cultural icon? Are you just jealous that your iRiver isn't? That's the only reason I can come up with that any of you would even care what kind of mp3 player someone purchases. It's like your throwing a hissy-fit because they didn't agree with your tastes.
I bought an iPod because I was already a fan of Apple tech. I've been a Mac user for 7 years. Even if iPod's hadn't exploded as they have, if they got just as much attention overal as Macs do in general, I still would have purchased one. Part of it is brand loyalty yes, but the more important part is that I trust Apple technology to do a good job. I'm completely satisfied with my computer and my mp3 player. I have no need for a PMP. I'd rather just save the 5 or 600 I would spend on that and put it towards the purchase of a Macbook. And I don't need to change to an iRiver or a Creative player or anything else because I have no problems with the iPod. It does what I need it to do and does it well. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't keep it.
