Korean info: Motorcycles 125cc and under do not require special motorcycle permits. Simply go to the local motor vehicle branch in your city, and show them your local licence, fill out the forms, do the eye exam, and they will give you a brand new korean licence (I am Canadian, check your countries status at the branch) along with your origional.

Take your bill of sale to the insurance company (I used Samsung and paid 137 000 won). After getting one year of insurance, they will provide the paper work for the next stop..

Go to the local area district office, and register your motorcycle. After paying the fee (76 000 won) they will give you your licence plate.
----------------------
Here's the info about getting a Korean motorcycle licence.

1. Get your Korean drivers licence (for cars). Most countries have an agreement with Korea which means you go there, pay a small fee, pass their visual test, and presto a Korean licence (with your home countries licence returned to you).

2. Go to your local Korean Drivers Licence agency at the appointed time.

Daegu info:

Road test is tuesdays. To sign up, arrive between 8:40am to 9:30. Actual testing begins at 10am. Single road tests are 4 000 won. Repeats cost the same.

Upon successful completion of the road test, a fee of 5 000 won will be required for a new licence to be issued to you. This licence will show your new status, as both car and large (above 125cc) motorcycle permissable.

-------------------
Selling your bike
Documents you'll need:
1. Handover paper 양도인 (this is your bill of sale). Seller MUST use his/her stamp (NOT SIGNATURE) on this paper.

2. Cirtificate of abolishment 이륜자동차사용퍠지증명서 (this is proof that you have cancelled your registration on the car/bike)

3. Cirtificate of seal impression 인감증명서 (this is a paper that proves you are who you say you are. to get this, you need to make a seal (I paid 6 000 won, with my english name on it), and go to the district office. They will make an impression of the seal, fingerprint your thumb (all people get this, koreans and foreigners), and charge you 600 won. Then you will get a paper that proves you are you. REMEMBER POINT 1. You will use your seal in the bill of sale NOT YOUR SIGNATURE, and this cirtificate of seal impression goes with the bill of sale.

Please note: all this information was gathered at the sources; ie government offices, using employees that spoke english.

Fast bike and great for cruising slowly down the street. People will notice you, and women will look. Take a look at the pictures. A bike has to look good and be powerful. This is both.

Road trips outside of cities are a pleasure. Korean law prohibits any and all motorcycles from using the expressways, so we are limited to use the national highway system. On straightaways, cars often travel around 140km/h so if your bike can only go 110, you'll have some problems here with tailgators. Its actually safer on the highways, than in the cities. I have travelled alot, and don't speak any korean. I use my PDA GPS to keep from getting lost.

I travelled through Daegu from the west side to the far east during RUSH HOUR, which takes a car nearly an hour, in 22 minutes. Motorcycles give major freedom, and total independence. No more subways, taxis, buses, or walking. I can drive this even through markets and park it anywhere.

If you want, you can buy my portable GPS navigator (RoyalTech Empress PDA) NOT INCLUDED IN PRICE OF MOTORCYCLE which would ensure you never get lost, as it can clip onto your belt or the motorcycle

Accessories: I paid 335 000 for these items
Windscreen (great for weekend outings)
power adaptor (plugging in cell phone, recharging batteries)
back rack
locking case
2 helmets, full face, half (covers the head, not the face)
Very strong lock, half inch chain link steel with steel lock (not cuttable by those big lock cutters (costs 55 000 just for this)

Unfortunately, your information is not entirely accurate.

A bike 125cc or under does not require a motorcycle license. However, if you buy this bike, which is a 250cc, you will need a motorcycle endorsement on your Korean driver's license. You can't transfer this over -- you have to take the road test if you already have a Korean driver's licence.

Here they actually usually don't check your license when you register the bike nor when you insure it - but if you ever get pulled over - or, far worse, if you're ever in an accident... you may have some problems.

The above poster is mostly correct. Korea requires a special licence for OVER 250cc (meaning foreign bikes, as Korean companies do not produce over 250cc, except for export... Hyosung makes 250cc as its largest).

When I bought my bike I wanted to do everything by the book. I went to the Registry, and had my Korean translator with me. I asked many questions, and the question of C.C. size was one of these. The Department chief was involved and showed me the book of regulations pertaining to this issue. In Canada I have a motorcycle licence, and Canada has an exchange program with Korea. I was able to get a korean licence without taking a test. I asked for my motorcycle status to be included on my korean licence. They declined this request, stating that I would need to take a driving test for this. Further, they informed me that for my bike (250cc) I did not need the larger CC permit. I am glad the poster brought up this issue, which allowed me to clarify, dealing with the actual regulations of Korea.

Serious persons can recieve video of the bike, idling as well as accellerating from zero to 80 in the city.

No you are incorrect... You need a bike license/ or endorsement on your car license if you have any bike over 125cc. You need to have at least a car license if you have a bike under 125cc.

You are also incorrect on the other point. There are indeed Korean bikes which are over 250cc.

There have been a few postings stating I have been wrong regarding 125cc and 250cc licence requirements.

For any posters wishing to disagree with me, I welcome that. Though I insist, back up your statements with references to Korean driving regulations. Your opinion, while you are welcome to have one, needs more to be believed.

I have posted information I received directly from the governement workers, in senior postions, by them showing me the printed regulations. I believe that this is the best source of information in this area.

Sharing our information is best for the whole Korean english teaching community. I am always interested in learning more.

Hyosung has a 650 bike. I've heard a couple of Korean motorbikes say Hyosung's break down and Daelim is the best. Here's a British site and their presentation of Hyosung bikes.

It's a good cruising bike for Korea. And 1.6 is a fair price. You will need a motorcycle endorsement to ride it. So what? Get your lazy ass down to the DMV and take the test!

제2종 소형오토바이 면허는 총배기량 125cc이상의 이륜자동차(측차부 포함)/원동기장치 자전거를 말하며, 응시자격은 만18세 이상이면 자격이 됩니다.

(look at the table there at the middle of the page)

A suspicious person might have accused you of deliberately misleading your potential clients. Personally, I just find it amusing that you've been riding your bike illegally the whole time that you've had it.

I'll check again with the DMV today. While I have posted the info that I received the last time I was down there, I'm always willing to double check.

Of course there is no issue of misleading others. I've said how and where I got my info; I would expect any person (native or foreigner) to always check important info for themselves. That's how I do it, so I can see it with my own eyes.

I think a bike is essential for a country, and I'll buy a Japanese bike when I get settled in Japan.

Taking the road test; show up at the DMV, pay the fee (a few thousand won) and use one of their test bikes. The simulated driving area is right beside their building. (this is the set up in Daegu).

The bike is in Daegu. Delivery can be arranged to Seoul, Daejeon, or Pusan. Delivery outside of these areas will be the paid for by the buyer. (which can be arranged via a delivery company). Viewing can be done here in Daegu or I can email you a video of the bike; starting, idling, accelerating, etc.

This is a sweet bike. I'm going to change the back brakes as well, so the next owner will have new pads/discs as well.
