Thanks Ariellowen.
I've been to some third world countries before, but it's been a while so I'm probably in for a bit of a shock. I'm getting in late on a Saturday night and got the place I'm staying at to organize a driver. I'm not too stressed about haggling away a few dollars, on things and will just go with the flow.
I looked into Bokor, and I'm hoping to spend the night out there as I think it will be cool.
Trvorcollins. Thanks I figured that while Cambodia isn't perfect that it was still accesable for a chick to do as long as I exercised a few street smarts like not staggering around drunk and waking up in a park |

haha....i'd wager you'd still probably be fine. i've done likewise there after a little much happy pizza and have had no issues. the key to phnom penh is to find a motorcycle taxi driver you're comfortable with and use him any time you want to go anywhere...if you go out at night he'll almost act as your babysitter if you get too fucked up. will ensure you get back to your hotel.
i stayed in a place called spring guest house in PP...it's in the guidebooks...10 bucks a night...very clean, air con etc. and it's downtown, not in the crappy cheap backpackers lake area. |

When people are saying off the beaten path, do they mean the paths that are lined with mines and other nasties. I'd like to travel off the beaten path, would love to take a motorbike there even more. I learned to ride here and have adopted the korean style--it's not red if no one is in the intersection. Is Cambodia all that different? I'm going with my girlfriend, who is ok on the back, but reluctant to drive herself. Is Preah Vihear alright? Are there any places backpackers just don't go, and is there a good reason for it? |
