Are public schools in Korea more generous with vacation time? Are there summer and winter breaks? I've heard of people being forced to go to work and spend pointless hours there because the kids are on vacation. I'm all for the teachers' schedules here. Some inservice days, but when the kids get a break from school, so do the teachers. Is it possible to find something similar in Korea?

With my job I get 2 weeks winter vacation and 2 weeks summer vacation. I still have to be here for the rest of teh vacation period though. My school has summer classes running for the students though, so I will actually be more busy during the summer than during the regular semester. I think it depends on teh school whether they run summer camps, but I don't think any school would give you the entire vacation off.

I'm working during summer vacation but only two classes in the afternoon and then I get to leave. So working for three hours a day for the next month is a pretty sweet deal. I'd rather be doing that than working at a hogwan.

I get five weeks paid vacation at my public school. The trade-off is that my contract is only for 10 months, so I don't get severence pay.

I'm working for a private elementary school now that basically operates like a public school.

12 month contract, 13 weeks paid vacation. No summer/winter classes.
