I'm thinking of a position in Dunchon Dong, it's close to Olympic Park. What is that area like? Thanks.

It's a fair way out from the 'party areas' of Seoul however there are places to go shopping and if it's close to a subway line, then it's just like any other area. I do like Olympic park a lot. Nice place for a walk.

Last year I had a Public school in Dunchon-dong -
(I live about 5 minutes away next to the World Peace gates - it a peaceful, quiet area - nothing much happens there (here) but thats why I like it -
Dunchon-dong has many, many elderly people - (war-veterans) because it is where the "Seoul War Veteran hospital" is located...
However, if you love hockey, walking, jogging, riding, inline skating, ice-skating swimming etc - it is next to Olympic park - and that is where all the sports (professional/amateur) enthusiasts come to play...
also just up the road (5 minutes) is Cheonho (Hyundai department store, Emart) and also Jamsil (world, mart) and Bang-I dong (restaurant, bar, nightlife, love-hotel area).... |

Mamaille,
That depends, what are you looking for? What are your interests?
If you like clubbing and busy hustle bustle life where the youth hangs out, then Mapo-gu, Hongdae/Hongik Station is the place for you. However, it's dirty and way more polluted than Dunchongdong.
However, if you like hiking, walking in the park, and less stuffiness, then
Dunchongdong is perfect. It doesn't really matter, Seoul has an excellent subway system. Literally, subway stops everywhere; not as complicated as it looks on the map..names are written in English/Roman phonetics. It will get you anywhere...

Dunchondong is fine. It is close to Jamsil, Lotte World and Technomart. It is about 30 minutes from Gangnam as well. It is about 35-40 minutes from Itaewon if you fancy that. Olympic Park is a decent area, albeit a little quiet. There is a decent party area in Sincheon. (Not the one near Hongdae, the one that is one stop from Jamsil) Air quality is ok in the area. You could do worse methinks.

Thanks for the replies. I'm like quiet whe I go to sleep but I don't want to be too far from where the action is (nightlife and young people). I want to be able to meet other foreign people. I think the subway stops running early (1AM). Is it easy to get around after the subway stops running?

Reasonably easy to get around... after the subway stops. There is a bus that will take you out to cheonho that runs a lot later than the subway and you can catch a cab from there.
