But in any case Eagles it's late and I'm tired of talking bollocks. In all honesty - if you're happy believing what you believe - more power to you, rock on. The one thing that annoys me about you and your behaviour is this need to push a religious belief system and act as missionary. Why can't you just be content with your inner peace and leave it at that?

Ok, fair enough, it seems like you are being serious.
Why don't you start a thread on it and I will join in. There are many Christians on the board, so they might like to add to it.

So what's with the Evangelical's missionary zeal?

How about a thread title "what is up with *some* Christians?"
As for the zeal, I assume it comes from the sense of being part of a large project. That's why a lot of people who don't like evangelists also don't like Esperantists. It's the "stop-telling-me-about-an-issue-that-I-don't-give-a-damn-about" kind of feeling.
Your video goes to an even better one!

| For evangelical Christians, mission work is a tenet of their faith. |

Did you read the quotes that prompted it? I'm hoping it will be more productive than other exchanges between 5Eagles. |

Ha! In the English version Homer says something like, "Marge, I think I hate Ted Koppel. No, on second thought I find him witty and informative." |

I agree with one of the posters earlier. Not all "Christians" try to force feed it to you. Jesus certainly didn't force anyone to listen to him. People willingly came to him because of his holiness. If you think fiveeagles is conducting a form of Christian "trolling" ignore him like you would any other "troll".
I have noticed the tendency, whether warranted or not, that fiveeagles/rteacher get attacked more than others. Maybe they bring it on themselves through their style of delivery or because the way they present their belief's. Maybe they do this on purpose to get more attention to their posts. Maybe all the negative attention they receive make them act more defensive. Maybe other posters who attack them get easily offended and put off by their strong belief system. Maybe other posters have been offended by other Christians/Religious types in the past and take it out on rteacher/fiveeagles. Maybe fiveeagles/rteachers beliefs are usually the punch line of some joke so its easy to join in and bash them. Maybe its all or some of the above.
Check out my sleep paralysis/dream thread. What happens? As soon as rteacher chimes in people must go off on him and add nothing to the subject. I have seen the same thing happen to fiveeagles in other threads. Let them state their viewpoint and if you don't agree with them say so. Otherwise ignore them. Don't insult them.
I haven't researched fiveeagles posts, but from what I have read a lot of times he is more or less on defense more than trying to force others to agree with him. Maybe in some cases turning the other cheek would be more appropriate as opposed to being defensive. Sometimes, whether he realizes it or not, fiveeagles sarcasm can come off as arrogant. It is often seen as a fleeing tactic and it doesn't translate well on a message board. I don't think he intends for it to be that way, it just translates that way on a message board. Maybe I should of addressed him in a pm before saying this on the board.
I hope I am not pointing out the splinter in fiveeagles eye while I have a plank in mine.
As for sharing his personal beliefs. That is part of being a Christian. This doesn't mean you force it on un-open ears. Christ himself made an analogy in Matthew 7:6 talking about this. Maybe I misinterpreted it, but I believe he is referring to evangelism. Share your beliefs and if you encounter resistance turn the other cheek. It is best to let others attack you and go on about your business. People will either accept what you say or not. This is putting faith in the holy spirit as opposed to trying to force it in yourself.
Oh by the way happeningthang, nowhere man will kill you for putting this in the current event forum.
Sorry for the double post. |
