Hello gentle people of Taegu.
I am in the throes of a job search. I live in a small city an hour or so by bus with a foreigner population of perhaps 6 (including me!). Networking has been exceptionally difficult. My contract finishes at an awkward time, the middle of september. I am trying to avoid posting my resume on the net and the subsequent recruiter frenzy.
At the end of this month, I have a long weekend (July 29-31). I would be interested in making my way to Taegu one day or evening and meeting socially with people who work in public schools and universities. The purpose would to be gather information and learn about possible opportunities for the fall.
For those of you not on holidays, interested in meeting with me for the stated purpose, or just want someone new to share a pitcher of beer with, please either post here, or PM me.
Thank you everyone.

Go to the Commune Club or another FT hang out downtown. The info is somewhere on Dave's. Just make sure you are searching for Daegu, not Taegu. I think the only people who still call it Teagu are AFN.

I say use the recruiters. Then use your good judgment. It's better to have too many offers than too few. Even if you network, that still won't mean you'll know anymore about a school..

Not sure I follow. If I ask someone who works at a school about that school, and they answer those questions, doesn't that mean I know more about the school than when I started? I suppose they could just flat out lie... Confused

Depends on what you ask and what they answer.

Networking is probably your best hope of rising above the clutches of the evil hagwan/recruiter tag-teaming menace that exists here in the land of K.

There are no guarantees, but it's a good place to start.

Yup, hence the thread. My networking options are very limited living where I do, made even more difficult because I can't really afford to hit the big city every weekend to meet new people.
