| At what age does saying "dude" seem strange? |
For me, at any age. But then I don't use the Brit/Oz equivalent "mate" either.
As for hearing it? Well, to me it marks the level of the person. |

| It seems like one of those words that will age with the generation who uses it. I guess in about 20-30 years, "dude" will sound to those young whippersnappers about the same as "peachy" or "swell" would to us. |

I know LC is chronically irrelevant (a result of being an attention-getter), but this one is even less relevant than usual.
It kind of hurts when you just don't matter, doesn't it? |
So far the only post that is out of line on this thread is yours ... which makes you the attention *beep*, not me ... and even more irrelevant to the topic than any other.
What a bitter little man you are. |

I admire the nipple-accentuating buttons on his leisure suit.
How much would it cost one of them Songtan tailors to make me one? |

Varies greatly within the context of where its being said.
In NY or SF, I'd never use the word 'dude'. Just sounds funny. If someone approaches me as in 'hey dude'.. it sounds like they are projecting me to be a white teenager in the big city or something.
I've eradicated it from my speech since then - yeah, growing up in Michigan, we were infused with California slang as teenagers.. so I had it at that time. Since I didn't hear it much in NY, SF, overseas, its somewhat stuck in teenager realm in my head when I do hear it for a long time.
But there are people I hangout with in Korea who use it often.. so those who use it, doesn't seem to phase me at all. But I can't seem to put that word back into my own vocabulary though. |
