Anyone know what the area is like in Daechi, near Samsung station, Kangnam-gu.

I don't know much about the Seoul area, so tell me what I should know.

And how in the world do Korean city names work? Dong ,Gu... which is bigger?

A 'dong' is a smaller area, maybe a few dozen blocks radius, or smaller.

A 'gu' is much larger, and it can be a few kilometres in radius. There are many 'dong's within a Gu

Kangnam-gu is one of the richest areas of Seoul, and Daechi-dong is one of the richest areas within Kangnam.

It is really good for some people, and not for others. I think its overrated, personally, but you are surrounded by a lot of rich young families, so there are lots of opportunities. On the other hand, it will be a lot more expensive to live.

Well, it sounds like I'll be living on a nice side of town. Hopefully, my studio apartment will be nice, and not a shoebox. I'd at least like to have a small appliance box!

Dude, Ive got no idea what you are blathering on about. The guy asked for help about Daechidong, and you brought up a totally useless thread. Nice work. As far as I know daechidong is a pretty quiet place but its close to COEX which is ok, though a bit boring after a while, and 2 stops from Kangnam which is a cool hood. Daechi would probably be a good place to get a lot of privates though.

Well, its one of the richest parts of the rich part of Seoul. Maybe Dogok might actually be richer because of the Tower Place complex. But Daechi is rich. Personally I wouldnt like to live there, its too quiet. I like the Kangnam station area more.

OK, now I really don't know who's who on these boards. Confused I thought Magicwolfman was DW, but maybe it was just a clever impersonation. (Wow, the words "clever" and "DW" really don't belong in the same sentence, do they?)

So this DW guy left quite the wake here, eh? There are several threads where he keeps getting mentioned.

Magicwolfman was a prat, and won't be missed for my part. That guy's got his nose so far up the mod's colons you can't see his ears anymore...and he's a fascist pig.

You might want to commute from a cheaper area unless your boss is setting you up in a sweet place. Maybe Daechi is rich rich rich, but most parts of it are some of the ugliest urban landscape I've ever seen, there's places in downtown Detroit that look nicer. There are lots of convenient places to shop if you don't have a car and just as many places to get some western comfort items, video stores, and cleaners.

Hmm, I wonder if you'r starting at our school. We're supposed to get another foreigner soon...I just didn't know they'd be a Kiwi.
