Suspect held in 50 rapes, robberies in metro area
A 30-year-old man was arrested and detained by police yesterday, charged with the rape-robbery of 44 women and the robbery of six more in a crime spree from April 2005 until last month.... police had distributed and posted on the national police Internet site a photograph of the man, captured by a security camera at one of the crime scenes late last year... He reportedly confessed to the 50 rapes and robberies.

Here is another case that was reported in January of this year.
Suspect in 82 rapes nabbed in eastern Seoul
Police on Thursday evening arrested a man who confessed to being the serial rapist nicknamed "Balbari." The arrest, they said, ended a seven-year rampage of rape and robbery. The 45-year-old suspect, Lee Jung-gu, has been charged with raping 82 women and stealing over 2 million won ($2,430) in total from them.... In his confession, Mr. Lee said his first rape was of an intoxicated passenger in his taxi; he followed her into her apartment and raped her.

His name was probably Kim or Lee. Nice to see they finally caught the guy anyway. I hope they put him away for a long time. Was reports of this guy ongoing in the newspaper over the last 15-16 months? I have noticed Koreans tend to really downplay any "failings" like this. Just curious.
EDIT: Wow, another guy. Do we always get the full story of what is going on this city? Or would that be bad PR for Korea? *Yikes* |

How the hell does a man get away with raping 44 different women!? I could see getting away with 5-10 max. before he screwed up and got caught, but 44 is an absolutely obscene number- unimaginable really... Surely there must have been some kind of pattern or enough evidence to track him down long before that. Makes you wonder just how fucking incompetant the people responsible for catching these freaks are... |

These f***s should be castrated. End of story.
Well, actually, they should then be sent to an American prison where they will be raped unmercifully. |

Taxi driver's rape conviction overturned
The Seoul High Court yesterday overturned the conviction by a lower court of a 49-year old taxi driver who had been charged with the rape of a 19-year old U.S. female soldier. The man had received a 10-month prison term in the original trial after being convicted of luring the newly-arrived servicewoman from Incheon International Airport to a hotel near there where the woman said he raped her. The appeals court ruled that the woman had shown no evidence of having refused the man's advances, and that he used "not enough violence to constitute rape."

Agreed, though a few serial killers have had high numbers.
Anyone else find it weird that it was mentioned that the man was charged with raping 82 women, "and stealing over 2 million won in total." Seems like he wasn't in it for the money. |

That is the bit I don't quite understand. So rape has to come with violence? You can be raped with absolutely no violence whatsoever. How does this logic work?!
Also, rape is not funny at all. |

Gross. Gross. Gross. I'm glad he was finally caught. Sorry to stereotype, but there are a lot of creepy taxi drivers out there. |
