Projected Price Cuts
Personally, I'm looking at the AMD X2 4600+, if it turns out to cost around $224. Any of the rest of you catching upgrade fever yet? |

Yeah. It does look like a good time to upgrade.
AMD and Intel will probably have a price war this Autumn. I'm guessing Intel will price it's new stuff aggresively meaning that the current range of chips from Intel will drop in price too.
As the article says, AMD will try to keep it's current No.1 spot for price/performance ratio.
Which is all a bit of a bummer as I did my big upgrade last month!!!
I ended up with an Intel 3.0 dual-core 930. Which I'm very happy with actually. Combined with the Asus P5LD2 deluxe MOBO and the nVidia 7900GT it turned out to an expensive upgrade, around 700,000 all in. But my comp runs sweet! |

Well, with Vista comes DX10 and there will be a whole new class of graphics cards needed to run it.
Yeah...the waiting game is silly, but for DX10, I will wait. DX9 lasted a long time, and without a DX9 card, things looked pretty bad (did you see the HL2 screenshots with a DX8 card?!). So, I don't want to get left out in the cold with a blazing fast card that can't reneder up to par. |

Yeah...looking good. However, they will be cheap then as well. Tech is hitting a bit of a wall in that people just don't see the need for upgrading these days.
The P4 line is plenty fast enough for common applications, and it really is a niche that feels a need to buy into the Core 2 line. At least, until Vista comes along; it will be a big market mover for all kinds of hardware.
I am making excuses mate...who wouldn't like to upgrade at any given point in time? I just haven't the resources right now, so waiting looks like a good option. |
