Hi,

I'm in Mumbai. I want to go back to BKK ASAP. Oh, god I do so love Thailand. I came for Lasik but rather the machine operated treatment. That clinic has set days and I missed it due to travel times so I'm settling regular Lasik here in Mumbai. The clinic looks clean and modern. The surgery is $850 and it takes three days. Pre exam - surgery- post check. I'll be free in three days. I haven't even left the airport area yet. Today after the exam, I'll go touring. the tuk-tuk taxis are metered and not a bad deal. It looks like the female Hindoos have to wear the tradional garb but the men can go modern. Its crowded, noisey and beepy. I dig watching the real old B&W India movies late at night. Its pretty surreal.

The food is spice heavy, lunch looks like bread with cheese and 3 different spice condiments. I have to go swim in the indian Ocean and the Arabian sea. I even feel like getting a ticket to Africa as long as I'm here.
I guess its not far and I can go to Tanzania.

I just read a book on bombay called "Maximum City." I wonder if it is as dumpy as the Indian-born author makes it out to be.

MUMBAI!

Been wanting to check out that city for awhile.. keep hearing of the nightlife being on par with Manhattan or London.. hard to imagine.. here is another source making the same claim:

I was kicked out of a small cafe/store last night for being a foreigner. The man just put his arms on the door and smiled. Never quite got that in Korea.

They have some accomplished beggars here. I was toying with some small girls yesterday and their hands came out. I shelled out about 10 rupees and then 11 more people showed up. That was pretty quick.

I haven't seen much of Mumbai yet, so far just the local market and TV. Theres lots of TV here.

TY for the link, I'll check that out.

Ah.. sounds a lot like my experience in Kathmandu years ago (minus the TV part).

What else happened while in Mumbai? I'm curious about more first-hand experiences there.

By the way, do you record this on any website or anything?
