When I click on a topic here at Dave's I finish by pushing the mouse off to the right. Then, while I'm busily typing away at some pearl of wisdom and earthshaking insight, my cursor starts floating off to the top, and before I know it, it lands on the 'Quote' box and suddenly, I have a [quote] thingie appear. Quite often it adds itself to the end of one of my masterpieces.

WTF is going on? Is my computer haunted? How do I exorcise this annoyance? [/b]

92 people have read this and NO ONE has a thing to say about it?

Am I the only one this happens to? I can't believe it. Even as I wrote the original, my mouse drifted off and clicked itself on [/b]. Highly annoying.

Does no one have a solution?

a) Cut down on the coffee.

b) Poison or traps work well.

c) get a new mouse, that one sounds like its too worn.

I thought this thread was going to be about levitating laboratory mice, damn.

Okay, here goes:

  1. Someone has cracked your firewall and is playing games with you; improve your firewall rules and restrict user privileges/shares,
  2. It's a poltergeist; call a shaman,
  3. It's an unreported software bug with the board; call a shaman.
  4. Small insects have made your mouse their home; hire a cleaning ajumma,
  5. Five cups of coffee is four past your limit; cut down,
  6. You have Restless Leg Syndrome and the constant motion of your leg is bouncing the mouse; see a doctor and get some medication,
  7. You're a tweaker; flush the meth down the toilet and find a rehab center,
  8. You have adult ADHD, ah...I forgot what to put here,
  9. You have split personality disorder, and while one of you is typing your masterpieces, the other is bored and playing with the mouse, these two sides of you haven't met yet; call a psychologist, or a shaman,
  10. Your mouse is worn-out and your tracking surface is uneven; buy a new mouse.

Choose one. Wink (one, three, and ten are the best contenders)

You either need to buy an optical mouse, or get a new mousepad. I used to have the have the same problem with my mouse and didn't understand it. I realised that my desk was getting dirty and the laser on my mouse was hitting the dirt spots and causing the cursor to jump all over the place. Got a new mouse pad and the problem was solved.
