Meh, I met a Serbian/Bosnian-Muslim couple in Korea in 1996. They seemed pretty happy.

Impossible.

Why? For all you know they were diplomats, programmers or engineers making a lot more money than English teachers.

Now that's really impossible. That's like saying a diplomat could marry an engineer and they could be happy. Rolling Eyes

Joyfulgirl, thanks for your encouragement. I realized when I read the phrase "there are worse things than being alone" that what I fear most is not being alone-- I fear meeting someone and settling down before I'm ready to stop running around and having adventures. I have so much freedom right now. I remind myself every day to savour the simplicity and choice. I'm never exactly "alone" either-- my life is brimming with friendship and romance.

Anyway, here's some clarification on the theological specifications. I went to a wedding last week between two very different people. She is a free-spirited French-Canadian who was raised as a Catholic, but has explored all sorts of spiritual paths, including psychics, auras, chakras, etc. He is a conservative, stalwart Dutch Reformer farmer. Her parents were divorced, she is recently divorced with two kids, and has no problem with drinking, threesomes and premarital sex. He is not a drinker and was a virgin when they met. You get the picture.

However, they found each other, and boom! Fireworks! They both have a passionate love for God and desire to serve him, and recognized it in each other. Obviously his family had tremendous reservations about accepting her (the Bible discourages divorce and especially remarriage afterwards) but their intense attraction produced a pregnancy shortly thereafter, which might have swayed their judgement a little.

Her lifestyle is set to change-- she's about to become a farm wife, but she's thrilled. They trust each other, even if they don't agree about a lot of specifics when it comes to the divine. He said to me last night "Nobody this side of heaven has all the answers," and I utterly agree.

There are a few things I'm pretty sure about, based on my experience with life and with God, but there are a pile of theological hot topics that I don't hope to resolve in this lifetime. If you're interested, here they are:

I'm sure that there is a God, that His influence and His call is evident in my life, that He gave me some specific gifts to share with others, and that His purpose is for me to grow in love for others and for Him.
Here are a list of questions I have some opinions/theories about, but that I wouldn't bet my life on:
Is the Bible inerrant?
Are Christians the only ones who are saved?
Is there a literal heaven and hell?
What is personal purity?
What happens after we die?

What I'm most interested in is a person who loves God, who feels loved by Him, and who is open to Jesus' teachings.

Junior: Am I looking for someone? I've only just started to consider the idea. All I want to know is how many eligible guys there are around at this moment, so I can extrapolate from that and figure out how likely it is that I'll meet one.

Why are you restricting yourself to Christians? My wife is Buddhist. I placed absolutely no emphasis on her religion. Im Catholic btw.

That explains why you are so dogmatic in your opinions.

spoken by someone with no life experience, I'm guessing. Once you've had some, I'm curious where you will find your support network. Many people choose a belief in God, and most whether they are Jew, Buddhist, Hindu, Christian or Muslim, associate themselves with an organized religion. Basically, your opinion doesn't jive with 80%+ of humanity. Not that that makes you wrong, it's just a very compelling argument for you to look deeper into your opinions.

Phew.

If you are even positing these as questions...now I know you are trolling. Wow, and people say I play deep sarcasm. You must have a hook out for the Kraken.

Why? Majority rules?

Bush supporter, are you? Or at least it's 50-50 he's the right man for the job? Or at least you considered it carefully based on his popularity with a large segment of the United States populace? It's a compelling argument, isn't it?

You know recently only 16% of polled Republicans said they view Hillary Clinton in a favorable light, but 23% had a favorable view of Hillary Rodham Clinton--I suppose that by looking deeper into my opinions I should support Rodham also(or carefully, carefully consider doing so)? Or American Idol? Or eating fast food 6 times a week? Or bombing Lebanon? Or owning a firearm? Or, even, Johnny Depp?

"Analyze your opinions based on majority-unconscious-consensus."

That is truly, trolls included, the most moronic statement I have ever seen made on this board.

You've posted that link before. It made me cry the first time. It did so again. I can't imagine being in that situation. If that had happened to me, I think that I would have had a nervous breakdown and had to be institutionalized. I'm so sorry.

Anyway, back on topic.

Kermo, I have an idea. How about Wackers? You two seem to be big "fans" of each other.
