Let this story be a reminder to all the girls on here to be careful in Itaewon.

Today I was doing some shopping in Itaewon. I went to the Asian Mart next to What the Book and then headed down the side street with the small resturants and the phone card shops so I could go to the red door shop. It was almost 12 o'clock and the shop was closed so I started heading towards the daughter's store when I realized that I was being followed, so I decided to go back towards BK.

At this point an African guy asked me if I was Russian I told him no and said goodbye and picked up my pace, however he followed behind me asking me where I was from. I told him to leave me alone really loudly, but he kept following me so I went to antique store. I told the owner the guy outside was following me, and asked if I could stay there. After about 5 minutes I checked outside and couldn't see the guy so started heading back to the subway.

The next bit happened really fast.

I was walking back and I noticed a car had started following me. We were just past the red door near that indian place. I started walking faster and then the driver called out something. I can't remember what he said but all of a sudden a hand had grabbed my hair and bag from behind. I elbowed the guy in the stomach and stamped on his foot and made a run for it as fast as I could and was able to get away.

This incident happened at about midday and had the potential to get really nasty.

It probably wouldn't have done much good, but you should have visited a police station afterwards.

Based on past experience when another white woman got attacked by a foreigner, the Itaewon police station are completly uselessl. Told her that it was her fault for being alone Rolling Eyes

I'm definitely sticking to the main roads in Itaewon! An African guy followed me right into the door of What the Book last weekend, and then probably decided he was out of luck.

Something very similar happened to me (being followed for twenty minutes, then grabbed) right near my apartment - but by a Korean man in the middle of the day.

As I seem to remember, some of the guys here argued Korea is actually really safe, and that we are being paranoid! Rolling Eyes

from my experience here before working for uncle sam and stuff, i learned that many of the african men came here as drug mules.

Uh, shouldn't that be "be careful in Itaewon, girls" not "be careful in Itaewon girls." Not a grammar flame, but I was expecting something totally different. Embarassed

There was a poster up in one of the clubs back a month or so ago warning about a serial rapist in Itaewon. He was described as short, medium build, Indian features, well groomed and spoken. 2 incidences where he approached women walking alone around club closing time in the side streets and raped them.

Anyone got an update?

I know it probably wouldn't have done a lot of good, but maybe filing a report might have added to something (I'm thinking statistically).

Glad you are ok though - make sure you treat yourself to something relaxing this weekend.
