As I understand it, your E2 work visa has to be cancelled and your employer has to give you a written letter of release in order for you to apply for another job during the period of that visa.
I've been talking to some people though, who say that it's unnecessary. And that all you have to do is go over to Japan, come back on a tourist visa and then find another job and apply for another E2.
Apparently, immigration don't check whether or not you are on an E2 already ( or something like that ). The guy I was talking to said that loads of people he knows have done it ...
Is this correct ? |

No it is not correct. If you are going to change jobs before your visa expires, you need to cancel the visa and get a letter of release. Only then are you free to get a new job.
Maybe what this guy was talking about was working illegally on a tourist visa. In the past, people did go to Japan, turn around and come back on a tourist visa and work illegally while their E-2 is still in effect. There are places that will hire you, but it is illegal and Immigration has been getting much stricter about it. |
