I watched a couple of the Youtube videos and I'm not sure which one was the right one -- unfortunately I couldn't open up the original link Seoulunitarian posted.
However, I really don't see anything funny about this subject. I'm anti-war and anti-Bush, but I think Bush happens to be right when it comes to this sort of "research." The so-called humour in the videos seems to be based on the assumption that a person can't be right on one issue and wrong on another. Does anyone who laughed at the videos honestly believe that? |

I don't think so. As I said, I don't like Bush, but I also don't like dishonest ways of advancing an opinion. The fact that Bush kills innocent people in Iraq doesn't mean it's right to kill innocent people in the U.S. or anywhere else. These videos imply that using embryos as a "resource" is a non-issue because of decisions Bush has made on other issues. I don't happen to agree. |

Red Dog, did you watch the video with the baby in the blender bit? You didn't think that was hilarious? Come on! |

You mean the part where Stewart went on about baby juicers and baby smoothies to make the point that that government guy was being condescending and self-righteous? Yeah, it was funny ... but proponents of this type of experimentation do treat the moral issue as insignificant. So I don't think Stewart's point had much validity. |

You didn't find anything humorous about the Representative's presentation concerning the embryos? Even if you disagree with human embryo research, that was funny. Oh well, different strokes.....

Well, I thought the presentation was a bit strange and so was the whole idea of surrounding Bush with "snowflake children." But the main point seemed to be that Bush is wrong about Iraq (and undoubtedly about a lot of other things) so he can't be right about anything. It all seems so silly to me ... |

The point I got is that Bush is wrong about Iraq and embryo research. It's no secret that Stewart doesn't like Bush, and probably disagrees with most of his policies, but the clip didn't seem to go any further than taking issue with Iraq and embryo research. Anyway, it's a bummer to debate a comedy clip.

| Yeah, it's obvious Stewart thinks Bush is wrong on both issues, but in these clips he's using Iraq to make his case for experiments on embryos. He's a funny guy, but I totally disagree with him (about the embryos, not about Iraq). |

This topic/discussion has come up several times here recently.
(Bush Stunts Stem Cell Research Funding)
(Stem Cell Bill Gets Bush's First Veto)
I remember what someone with suffering family members said here.

For me, if Christianity was gone tomorrow stem-cell research would be federally funded by the US government tomorrow, and that's more than enough reason to support the "eradication" of Christianity.
I'm all for "live and let live" until your pie-in-the-sky starts getting in the way of real people with real problems here on the real Earth.
In a similar vein I would encourage Americans to go here and find the contact information for your congressperson, both senators and, yes, even your President and make clear to them that House Resolution 810 must pass, even if that means overriding a veto from our Zealot-in-Chief.

One thing that that has been lost, perhaps deliberately obfuscated, is the fact that we no longer need embryos per se. All that is needed now is an ovum/egg cell.
Is an ovum a "life"? If it is, then sperm are too, and everytime a man m@sturbates he commits "genocide" as millions of sperm are "killed" for his pleasure. |

@ Red Dog:
I don't see a category error here at all. If you are going to defend a Culture of Life, then defend it everywhere. Selectively defending a Culture of Life is like not defending it at all. There was no logical error in Stewart's comedic presentation, and it was damn funny too. |
