Sometimes the people in charge of TV stations here can be so mature:

Xports shows a lot of American baseball games here. Prior to, in between, and after games they always have a highlight montage set to music. Homeruns, great catches, great plays etc. Then they come to Hideki Matsui, a famous Japanes player who has had great success in New York. What is his highlight you ask? Diving for a ball, missing it, sitting on the field and holding his wrist in obvious pain, and then walking in the locker room grimacing in pain.

Classy.

(to be completely fair though, I have vague memories of Canadian broadcasting showing American athletes fall or do something stupid. Perhaps not though)

When i was studying journalism one of the main themes was the contention between responsible media that shows people truth and what is good for them, and one that shows people what they want, even if it isskewed or racist.

Unfortunately the masses pay for trash that reinforces what they want to believe.

if an American player said derogatory things directed at Canada, similar to what Matsui said about korea on international TV... i'm sure canadian broadcasters would do the same.

Sorry, i was mistaken about WHERE he said it. Actually his comments were directed to a press conference before the World Baseball Classic.

Before the first game between Korea and Japan, he said that Korean players would never reach the level of skill enjoyed by Japan in the current, or future tournies.
He said Koreans are too selfish and undisciplined and don't play intelligently.

ok. so there may be a bit of truth to some of that... but there's no need to say it to the media.

Matsui ended up having a terrible game, and got pegged in the ass on purpose by the korean pitcher in retaliation for what he said.

You know that Matsui didn't even play in the WBC. Ichiro was the one that said that stuff to the media. Ichiro was a bit of a dumbass for saying that, but it was not Matsui.
