so, i got some video cassettes for 1 of the books im using. the problem is i only have a computer (linked to a projector) in my classroom.

anyone know how to convert it into a disc or how much it would cost to get it done?

It won't be too easy. There would be some connections that you probably don't have that you would have to buy. Also, you would still need a VCR and specific cards for your computer.

Try looking into having a company do it. Though, I heard (only heard) it can be expensive.

ANother idea is to look for it on the net, maybe someone has already done it and you can download it (using bittorrent, or a file sharing program...)

All you need is a capture card and some software. It's not hard, but it takes time and a lot of harddrive space, depending on the compression settings you use. It's no more difficult than capturing video from a MINIDVD camcorder, except that VCRs don't have firewire connections.

You will need a card that has RCA imput jacks. Line the VCR into the card, load up the software and that's it.

A good (though dated) "how-to" type article here, but what he says about dropped frames...well, there are ways to avoid it, but without selling the farm to finance the computer, it's something you will have to live with.

A fast hard drive, lots of RAM, a fast CPU and nothing else...NOTHING else going on when coding. This will minimize the lost frames.
