I went to the pension office today. My old academy (now W, formerly EHWA) in Seocho reported that I worked for them for 11 months and only paid nine months pension. I worked for them for 12+ months.

I went to W and told the new director (Paul) that there had been a mistake and that the academy owed me approx. 550,000 won. I gave him a paper from the pension office and asked him to fill it out, documenting that I had begun working for them in December. I had a copy of my bank book indicating deposits and my contract dated Dec. 3. He told me they would research it. Then he told me the owner said he would pay off all valid back claims by the end of August. I asked him to put it in writing. He declined. I asked him to put something in writing indicating we had met and discussed pensions. He declined, and gave me the number to the main office, where no one spoke Enlish. I left.

At this point, I'm willing to settle for 11 months pension vs. 12. My questions are:
1. What documents do I need to take with me to the Ministry of Labor to file a complaint?
2. Which of the MOL offices have people had the best luck with?
3. How much time should I expect to burn?
Many thanks,
Jennifer

If you have Pension issues, you need to contact the Pension Office.

http://www.npc.or.kr/eng/g_index.html

If you contact them, you'll need your ARC card #, your contract, and you MAY need the license registration number of your hogwan. The license registration number can be found on a framed document in the lobby or public area of the hogwan... posting is required by law.

About the 11 month issue... if you can prove you worked there for 12 months - don't settle for less. Report them.

For severance pay.... you need to comtact the Labor Board. Again, you'll need proof of working 12months.
