Hi,
Has anyone bought the Genki English Cd set for teaching in Korea?
Was it any good? If not, do you have any better recommendations?
Thanks!

I just ran into that website the other night and thought that it seemed like a good supplement for my curriculum. I didn't buy the CDs, but I used one of the songs and one of the games with my class and it worked well with my kiddos. (The song clips on the web site are long enough to get the idea.) |

Apparently Genki English is a big joke in Japan....apparently. |

It's definitely not a complete curriculum, although it seems to be advertised that way. But the songs are fun, better than the songs/chants in the curriculum here, not too difficult, and clearly target beginning conversation skills.
His website advertises being the most used curriculum in Japan or something like that. Doesn't seem likely.
There are LOTS of Japanese brands/things that have taken off here in Korea, aren't there? |

I teach in public elementary schools and talked the local school board into paying for them. I've used them in grades 3-6 and the kids absolutely love the songs and games. But as somebody said, it's not a complete curriculum. I usually supplement the current textbook theme with a corresponding song and game combo. It works wonders. I frequently hear the kids singing the songs in the hallways between classes. The students have made much more progress this semester as compared to last semester, when I wasn't using Genki. |
